A policing operation which uncovered drug dealing gangs operating between Leicestershire and the West Midlands has led to eight men being jailed.

Evidence gathered over a year by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit led to the discovery of the two groups, based in Hinckley, Leicestershire, and in the West Midlands, who were involved in the collection, distribution and sale of class A drugs.

As the investigation continued, members of the groups and their roles were further established which led to the arrests of the eight men in April last year.

On the 11th of April, those eight men were sentenced at court to a total of more than 60 years' imprisonment after all pleading guilty to conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

Update received 17 April 2025

We hope you are keeping well, thank you for taking the time to read our updates.

Since our last update, we have received 35 calls to Police regarding matters in Burbage. 8 were emergency calls and 13 were priority calls.

Reported Crime and Appeals

Crime in Burbage this week has been related to business crime, theft from building sites and a few shoplifting incidents. We have spent a lot of time completing CCTV work and supporting with these investigations.

Residential concerns we have been dealing with include dog incidents, parking and other general road safety concerns.

We have also been completing safeguarding work and communicating with partner agencies to ensure appropriate and timely support/intervention is provided.

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

As part of some pro-active work around youth related Anti-social Behaviour, we have been visiting local schools in Burbage over recent weeks, and on Wednesday, we completed presentations to years 7, 8 , 9 and 10 children at Hastings High School.

We discussed issues that have been raised as concerns by local residents over recent weeks. Whilst we appreciate the vast majority of children are well behaved, it was a good opportunity to ensure everyone is aware of what behaviour is not acceptable and the consequences of bad behaviour whilst they are out and about. We also ensured the children are fully aware of the impact that Anti-social Behaviour can have on victims.

As well as Anti-social Behaviour, we discussed issues such as drugs and county lines. Our aim is to safeguard children from becoming victim to these issues, and to ensure they fully understand the local work Police do in supporting victims, investigating crime and dealing with those involved. We hope this work reduces these types of issues as we approach the Easter Holidays and Summer Holidays.

We also completed our monthly beat surgery at the Three Pots Post office where we spoke to multiple residents around issues such as vehicle crime, road safety and residential burglary. As always, it was a pleasure to catch up with Deepak and have a chat about local concerns. We even managed to get a photo of him smiling.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Whilst overall crime relating to residents such as vehicle theft and burglary remain low in Burbage, we are getting reports of suspicious activity and businesses are being targeted by criminals. Please stay vigilant and keep doors/windows and vehicles locked when you are not about, especially with the warmer weather it may be tempting to leave them unsecured when you go out.

Thank you and take care.

As you can see from the above reported incidents, there are some opportunistic criminals about. PLEASE ensure vehicles are locked and all items of value are removed, especially bank cards, laptops and cash. Please do not leave bags of any kind on display, as this may draw attention to the vehicle, regardless of what is in the bag.

If you are going on holiday or leaving your property for a time, please consider window alarms, house alarms, light timers and asking a trusted friend or neighbour to keep an eye on your property. Opportunistic criminals will spot properties where residents are away. Perhaps ask a neighbour to park on your drive if you are not there.

Thank you and take care.

A bit of an update on the recent drugs activity we advertised on our last message. Two persons were arrested and charged with conspiracy to supply Class A Drugs. Both were Remanded to appear at court, with one being bailed and the other being remanded into prison pending Crown Court Trial. On top of this, an address linked to the above-mentioned individuals has been served with a CLOSURE NOTICE. The Beat team work with partner agencies such as Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council to address issues in a multi-faceted way.

A bit of good news for me, to share with you. I was awarded the PCSO of the year for 2024 last night. A massive thank you to Sgt James Cross and PC Josh Symonds for their support over the last year. A big thanks to you as well. We get so much great feedback and have lots of really positive relationships with residents in Burbage. The overall, strong community relations really helps us do our job and get some positive results so thank you very much.

"PCSO of the Year: PCSO Darren Stretton. A place where everybody knows your name, well, for Darren that's Burbage. Darren is well-known for his service to the village and is considered a fountain of knowledge. He continues to impress with his local knowledge, his awareness about what's happening and issues facing the area and its residents. Darren works tirelessly to ensure regular contact and maintain a constant flow of information sharing with his community." (PIC Chief Constable Robert Nixon)

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Whilst we will always attempt to address reports of suspicious behaviour, it is also worth keeping in mind that reports of "people being sat in cars" are not always going to be of a criminal nature and will not get a Police response. Likewise, reports of vehicles will only be attended by Police where appropriate criteria are met to warrant a Police response. Describing criminal activity or passing on vehicle details will help us determine the level of concern.

Thank you and take care.

Police Update received 15 March 2025

It has only been a few days since our last report, but there are a few bits of information we would like to share with you relating to the ongoing work we have been completing to address drug issues and youth related incidents.

Reported Crime and Appeals

Whilst officers were out and about on patrols, two people were arrested in Burbage for drug supply/possession. A section 32 search was also completed at an address on Saturday 15th. Recent targeted patrols around drug related activity have resulted in some very positive results over recent weeks and will also hopefully deter those involved from attending the area. As always, we encourage you to contact us with any information you may have around drug dealing, locations, times, vehicle details and those involved. We're pleased to report that a 16-year-old boy has been given a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) thanks to the effort of officers from the Hinckley and Blaby Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA).

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was issued with the order at Leicester Youth Court on Monday 3 March after pleading guilty to one count of theft of a motor vehicle, one count of handling stolen goods, one count of harassment and driving without a license or insurance.

The order was granted on conviction after officers were able to prove he was linked to numerous reports of antisocial behaviour in Hinckley and Burbage.

The order, which is in place for 12 months, includes a number of conditions including being prohibited from entering Hinckley town centre unless in the company of a family member over 20 years of age, wearing any item that covers the nose or eyes in a public place, behaving or associating with anyone action in a manner that may cause harassment, alarm or distress.

Breaching the order could lead to him being arrested.

In addition to the CBO, he also received a youth rehabilitation order and was ordered to complete 40 hours of unpaid work and fined £100. His driving licence was also endorsed with eight points.

Sergeant James Cross, from the Hinckley and Blaby NPA said: "The boy concerned was causing significant harm to our communities by engaging in antisocial behaviour and other offences.

Our primary focus is protecting our communities, and I'm pleased to inform you that the CBO will assist in keeping you safe.

We would encourage you to continue reporting incidents of antisocial behaviour to us. This can be done online by visiting Report antisocial behaviour | Leicestershire Police

We have completed our beat surgery at the SPAR this week. It was a very busy event and lots of follow up work completed relating to home security.

We have also been completing patrols and general door knocks to raise awareness around garden crime, drug activity, vehicle crime, burglary and theft from vehicles. Areas visited include the Three pots estates and Brookside area.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Regarding parking complaints, if the offender is causing an immediate obstruction or danger, the incident needs to be reported in that moment to either 101 (non-emergency) or 999 (emergency). If the issue is not an emergency, you may be asked to ask the owner of the vehicle to move it, if you are comfortable doing this. You can also report these issues via the below links. Work we do locally as follow ups to complaints, such as words of advice, appears to have run its course and is not always manageable at a local level due to the increasing population and increasing visitors (businesses and schools). Whilst we will always do what we can to address inconsiderate parking, road safety is a multi-agency issue where councils have their own dedicated departments to deal with issues that Police do not have the powers to deal with.

We visited Burbage Infants to complete a road safety talk. Whilst we spoke about the basics such as "stop, look and listen", we also encouraged the children to pass on messages to parents around issues such as mobile phone use, pavement parking and other dangerous driving/parking around school areas. Children at the Infants and Juniors have been provided with a "tales of the road" educational book. This activity is part of the overall road safety work we complete.

Cannabis use complaints generally increase as the weather picks up. If you have concerns around this in your area, it can be reported to either HBBC or Police. It is useful if you are able to keep a log of dates/times and exact location the issues are coming from so we can target patrols and take positive action.

Pc Symonds and Smeaton have been out and about completing patrols in Burbage including locations such as Colts Close and Brookside. One male was also arrested on Bridge Road following some suspicious activity spotted by officers around the Castle court area.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

We are currently spending a lot of time on youth related issues around drugs. The influence of drugs/dealing can impact children and families. Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

Stop searches this week at locations such as North Close and Bridge Road.

Home visits and partnership working around reports of Cannabis use from properties in Burbage.

We have been out completing some speed checks this week in response to resident feedback and the recent incidents involving cyclist's vs cars. Please see the below poster showing the difference in chances of being killed when driving at 30Mph compared to driving at 40Mph. This is of particular importance when considering we targeted areas that school children are about at school times. During these events, tickets are issued (dependant on Police resource) and at minimum, warning letters and educational materials are sent to offending vehicles.

We visited the below areas around school time to show visibility and monitor speeds.

  • Rugby Road (30Mph near the traffic lights for Sketchley Primary)

277 vehicles monitored; 9 vehicles caught driving between 37-41 Mph.

  • Hinckley Road (near Forresters Road junction)

196 vehicles monitored; 1 vehicle caught speeding 42 Mph

  • Brookside

77 Vehicles; 0 caught speeding. A lot of on street parking which helped slow traffic down.

If you wish to report driving offences, you will need to report this online and please provide footage/Dashcam where it will be reviewed and taken forward dependant on evidence. Making a road traffic incident report | Leicestershire Police

Whilst we do what we can locally, please utilise the above link where there is evidence of an offence that you wish to report.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

A resident has been in touch regarding a phone call they received from a 01183 number claiming to offer "crime and fire security". If you want anything like this, please contact us directly or LFRS directly as we have previously advertised. You never know whether these types of calls are outright scams or private companies. (this one appears to be a scam) Please do not engage with them.

Thank you and take care.

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

Part of our role is community engagement, this involves younger and older residents in Burbage. These types of activities help ensure everyone has an opportunity to speak to us and be aware of crime/crime reduction relevant to where they live. We visited the Moat house for their Blue light day event where we spoke to residents, and they had the opportunity to have some fun in the Police car.

We have spent a lot of time identifying and dealing with the Graffiti issues this week. This includes communication with Schools, HBBC, home visits and collecting evidence.

Patrols ongoing in relation to the recent attempt vehicle thefts on Greenmoor Road and Herald way. Work continues around CCTV and investigations in the area.

Due to incidents, I was unable to attend the Co-op for the beat surgery so will look to book this in over the coming week but pop me an email if you need anything. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Please see our update for recent reports in Burbage.

Reported Crime and Appeals

There have been a few reports of theft from vehicles over recent days (4th and 5th). One from Jury's Inn hotel and 3 incidents from Sketchley Grange Hotel where a Land Rover Defender spare tyre and cover was taken from 2 vehicles, along with a theft of tools from a van. Ongoing investigation but please be mindful of this if you have these types of vehicles.

Over recent days we have spent considerable time dealing with youth related safeguarding work in relation to recent incidents and information we have identified. This type of work is mainly unseen but hopefully makes a difference to youths and families going forward. Work includes communication with partner agencies such as social care and HBBC, visiting local schools and speaking to parents.

There were a couple of reports of fights near Rugby Road Park and Brookside Chip shop between 20:45 and 21:00 on the 7th of February. Officers attended and no offences were disclosed (at the time of writing this report). It appears those involved were mainly teenage females. If you have any information regarding these reports as to who was involved, please get in touch. LEP-070225-0598

Report of suspicious vehicle on The Fairway at around 14:00 on the 7th. The male in the van was walking up and down driveways. We have completed checks following an area search. Please do not agree to work being completed by cold callers and never hand over cash. By handing over cash at the door, the "cold callers" will be aware you keep cash at your property and may make you a target for future incidents. Please keep a look out for any elderly or vulnerable neighbours as they may be targeted by these people.

Report from Greenmoor Road at 21:05 on the 07/02/2025 of suspects checking out a vehicle, this is the second time this vehicle may have been targeted. Police attended immediately and completed area searches. It is suspected they were on foot and headed towards Rugby Road. LEP-070225-0603

This was followed by a report on Herald Way (Broadsword Road Junction) at 21:15 where a brick has been thrown at a window. Access was gained to the garage and damage to the back passenger door of the Range Rover. LEP-070225-0608

Thankfully no vehicles were taken and calls to Police were made quickly. Multiple officers attended to complete area searches and check CCTV. Work is ongoing to identify vehicles entering and leaving the area around this time. Stop searches were also completed in the area.

As always, please send on any CCTV or information you may have and please consider steering locks, window alarms and driveway bollards if you have high value/performance vehicles.

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

Thank you to those who completed the Road Safety Survey we recently sent out via parent mail, Neighbourhood link and Facebook. In total, we received 322 responses over several days, which for a local survey is fantastic.

These results help us to pinpoint areas and issues that you have raised, so we will be directing our resources based on your responses around the issues you have raised.

  • 70.63% said Road safety is an issue in the area.
  • 50% of the concerns related to obstructions.
  • 22% of the concerns related to speeding vehicles.
  • The remaining concerns of note include drink/drug drive and heavy goods vehicles.

It was clear that the main subjects of concern, are overall a problem Monday to Friday, and Morning and afternoon (school times).

We will be analysing the results and locations, completing targeted work in relation to concerns such as drink/drug drive. If you have any specific information around drink/drug driving such as registrations, names, locations, please pop me an email darren.stretton@leics.police.uk or it can be reported anonymously here Giving information anonymously | Crimestoppers

Whilst we have made considerable efforts over the years to implement permanent change (pavement bollards to stop pavement parking and making immediate school areas pedestrian only at school times), these efforts have ultimately failed at this time.

Despite the advice repeatably given to motorists, patrols, home visits, in school assemblies and continued pleas to parents, we continue to see repeated reports of poor behaviour in school areas. We have planned in some road safety activities in the area, and we are waiting on a few updates from some of the routes we have been looking into.

As we have stated before, Road safety is the responsibility of multiple agencies such as Leicestershire County Council, support needed from local schools and common sense needed from motorists in the area. As your local beat team, we have invested a lot of time and effort over many years to support with this issue and will be using all powers we have available to deal with dangerous driving/parking in the area.

We will keep you updated. Thank you for your feedback and support with this.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

With several recent incidents around youths/bicycles vs motor vehicles (thankfully no serious injuries), please ensure hi-vis clothing is worn, bike lights and helmets used/worn. Thank you and take care.

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

One male arrested on the B4114 for drink drive and no insurance on the 31/01/2025 at 22:00 following a report of a road traffic collision.

As part of our ongoing work into road safety around school areas, we have been completing work in the area to identify solutions to ease parking issues. We have also visited Rugby Road and increased signage as below, to raise awareness around crossings and child safety. Concentration and awareness is something all motorists and road users should be familiar with, especially around school areas.

We visited Hanover Court to speak to residents during their coffee morning. We discussed issues such as local crime, scams, and crime prevention. It was lovely as always to catch up with them and a worthwhile meeting, especially with the issues around scams where we have had multiple reports from Burbage residents over the last month.

Patrols have been completed at locations such as Hastings High School area, Lychgate Lane, Church Street and East Close area.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

With sporadic but ongoing reports of suspicious behaviour suspected to be vehicle crime related, please ensure Police are called immediately to try and locate those involved. Again, please consider steering locks, window alarms and other home security items, I have attached the crime prevention catalogue so drop me an email if you have any questions.Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Whilst we are completing work such as patrols, Road safety checks, increasing road signage and communicating with partner agencies around road safety, we can only keep asking and reminding drivers to be considerate and support us in keeping children/residents safe.

Please continue to be mindful of scams. Recent increase in reports of online and phone call scams. These include scammers claiming to be from a bank. Please do not engage with them and never transfer money based on these types of calls. Whilst banks will use the banking protocol, please visit ActionFraud for help and advice. Action Fraud

We often get reports of abandoned vehicles in Burbage. We are on occasions in a position and legally allowed to seize and remove them. Following numerous reports of untaxed /SORN vehicles being abandoned on Burbage road the Beat Team have been and recovered 2 vehicles using DVLA powers. Parking is generally at a premium in Burbage without vehicles being dumped and left outside people's properties. We encourage businesses and residents to be considerate of people that live in the area.

Pc Symonds and I have been completing some targeted patrols based on resident feedback and reports of recent crime. Evening/night patrols include areas such as Brookside, Higham Way, Jury Inn hotel, Sketchley Meadows industrial estate, Three pots estate, North Close and Sapcote Road area.

During January, shoplifting has been an issue we have been dealing with. Please see this article where you will see an example of a local result following work into those involved.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Whilst attending an emergency call on the A5 where an ambulance had a small collision with a vehicle (no injuries), we would just like to ask motorists that if they see an emergency vehicle approaching, please be aware and safely move over where appropriate (especially where there are bollards in the middle of the road). We noticed several drivers making "half decisions" which makes it very difficult for Emergency service drivers. Some of the decisions made by motorists whilst we were on our way were questionable to say the least.

This link is worth a read which will give you more information on how to react to emergency vehicles.

Report of a disturbance at the Anchor Inn around 23:25 on the 25th of January. Police attended and dealt with the situation. A stop search was completed.

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

Your local Police beat team are working with Schools and businesses in the area to address increasing complaints regarding vehicles around schools, at school times. These complaints are received from parents, residents, and staff.

Dealing with road safety requires a multi-agency approach. Due to the range of complaints, Burbage Police are seeking the support of local Schools, council, and county council to implement initiatives and solutions to support in reducing the risk to children, parents, cyclists, and motorists.

We would be extremely grateful if you could take a couple of minutes to complete the below survey through Neighbourhood Link. Please be as accurate and constructive as possible to ensure we can identify and target concerns. These responses will be reviewed and used to support our push locally for solutions in Burbage. There is a comments section where you can write anything you feel relevant including suggestions on how to improve the situation. If you choose to sign up to Neighbourhood Link, you will receive weekly emails regarding Police activity and crime in Burbage.

You can either click on the below link (please use a Burbage Postcode when completing the survey.

We have been working for many years to address vehicle related complaints, especially outside schools at key times. Police activity has included seizing vehicles, issuing section 59's, patrols, challenging motorists and working with schools.

We have also tried to encourage local businesses to make car parks available for parents, supported in "walk to school initiatives", pushed for pavement bollards, extended double yellow lines, increased traffic wardens and pedestrian areas at key times.

We currently have Burbage infants, Burbage Juniors, Sketchley Hill Primary and Hastings High School which we are looking to address in Burbage. With the population ever increasing, please support us in ensuring children are kept as safe as possible when attending and leaving school.

An example of complaints we get during the school hours which needs to stop immediately:

  • Parking in "no stop" areas to drop off children. This includes stopping in the middle of the road so children can run out.
  • Blocking resident's driveways.
  • Driving on/Blocking footpaths.
  • Not paying due care and attention whilst driving in School areas.
  • Parents/children not utilising the lollipop man/woman and choosing to cross in dangerous areas.

A lot of residents will either have attended one of the schools in Burbage or have children/grandchildren that do. We all have an interest in resolving this issue. As we have already stated, to implement solutions, we need the support from partner agencies. Your feedback as a local resident, someone that works in the area or a parent, is greatly appreciated, and gives you a chance to have your say. Please take this opportunity.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Please consider home security and vehicle security. RFID wallets, steering locks, cactus spikes and driveway bollards are a must if you have high value or high-performance vehicles.

Please report suspicious behaviour immediately and if you see a crime in progress, 999 immediately.

Other fairly local areas have suffered with vehicle thefts and suspicious behaviour believed to be linked to vehicle thefts so please be aware.

Thank you and take care.

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

We have been addressing a range of issues such as parking, abandoned vehicles, local businesses causing vehicle related issues and schools.

We have also been completing some dog related work, finishing up some recent anti-social behaviour work and working on some safeguarding issues that have been raised.

During out recent partnership event with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue and HBBC, we visited nearly 300 properties. As a result, around 66 properties had home safety checks completed whilst the rest either had doorstep advise, leaflets or refused. A big thanks to our partners involved and hopefully the support given was appreciated and will make a difference.

Update received 20 January 2025

Here is a short update for Burbage regarding crime and Police activity over recent days.

Reported Crime and Appeals

  • Several reports of drug activity around the Brookside area and Farm Road. We are increasing targeted patrols around these areas and completing work to identify those involved.
  • Stolen bikes from Hinckley found in Burbage. There has been a couple of motorbike thefts not far from Burbage over recent days so please be mindful of this type of crime. We have made one arrest over the last few days in relation to some of the recent crime.
  • Damage to a gate on Brookside. We have identified those involved and dealt with appropriately. This includes home visits and using the Anti-social Behaviour incremental approach.
  • Damage to a fence on Atkins way which occurred on Saturday 18th into Sunday 19th. It appears the fence may have been hit by a vehicle. If you have any information on this, please pop me an email darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

It has been a busy few days completing a lot of work around recent youth related issues. We will often complete this type to support with investigations, complete safeguarding work, issuing Anti-social behaviour warnings and in trying to stop children getting involved in issues they should not be. A lot of this work often goes unseen, but it hopefully makes a difference to individuals and lowers reports to Police going forward.

As part of our work around road safety, we have delivered some road safety packs to local paper boys/girls in the area. These packs contain items such as bicycle lights and other items which will support during the dark nights.

Three Pots Post Office. Helping to support with Road Safety.

There are continued complaints around parking at school areas/times. We are addressing these complaints as much as we can and have meetings with schools booked in over the coming weeks.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Whilst there has been minimal reports of vehicle crime and residential burglary this month in Burbage, historic data shows that January and February can be an issue. Please remain vigilant around these types of crime and please get in touch if we can be of any support. Call 999 immediately if you see or suspect a crime to be in progress.

Thank you and take care.

Update received 17 January 2025

We hope you are well. Here is an update for the last week in Burbage.

Reported Crime and Appeals

Since our report last week, we have received 27 calls to Police, 6 of these were emergency and 10 were priority calls. These calls were mainly welfare concerns, domestic related and vehicle related incidents.

There have been several reports of Fraud where money has been lost due to online scams. Please be very mindful around online adverts, "easy money" and money opportunities that are trending or appear to be endorsed. Please visit Action Fraud for some in depth help and advice Action Fraud

There have been several reports of suspicious vehicles, officers have attended and either area search no trace or call of good intent.

We are receiving continued complaints around School related parking/driving issues. We continue to complete patrols and challenge parents/drivers when we are in a position to do so. We have planned a meeting with Burbage Inf/Jnr's soon to explore ways of making the areas safer. Ultimately, any solution or work done needs the support of residents, parents and partner agencies such as LCC. It is unbelievable how a request for support with keeping children safe outside school needs constantly addressing and the amount of Police time is required to try and resolve this. .

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

Stop search completed by officers patrolling Burbage at 03:30 on the 14th of January near Featherston Drive. Work around this stop is ongoing.

We are completing home visits with HBBC to address reports of Cannabis smells from properties.

We have completed work on the 16th of January with LFRS and HBBC for a post incident response following the house fire on Sapcote road just before Christmas.

We completed door knocks around the Sapcote Road to Banky Meadow area where home safety checks were offered, smoke alarms fitted and other issues such as housing needs, find a warm welcome, and anti-social behaviour discussed. It was a really productive day which has helped many residents around a range of issues and will hopefully prevent/reduce further incidents.

If you would like a home safety visit, please visit their website for more information https://leics-fire.gov.uk/

We have also continued with patrols around school areas. We have engaged with local residents and staff at Burbage Juniors where we aim to put plans together to reduce some of the inconsiderate and potentially dangerous habits of parents attending these areas. This requires support from Schools, parents and Leicestershire highways so is not a quick fix, but we are doing everything we can to deal with it.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

It appears the suspicious persons on Lupin Close, reported on our last email, were people collecting for charity. It is not known if this was legitimate, but I would advise not to sign up to anything or hand over money at the door as this will often involve you handing over personal information such as bank details. If you wish to donate to charity, you can directly visit the official website. This enables you to take time to think about it, asses your finances, speak to partner/family/friends and make an informed decision.

There have been recent concerns raised around cold calling in Burbage. From the research I have completed, it has been very difficult to identify anyone that is responsible for maintenance of the no cold calling signs, where to get them from or apply for them, and the legal implications. If a particular business/person is repeatably targeting an address, this could be dealt with by trading standards and/or Police.

Our advice would be to not buy or sign up from door-to-door sales or cold calling. We have a limited amount of no cold calling stickers, these will at least help you in identifying the character of a sales person if they still choose to knock your door.

These websites are very useful and worth a look Door to door sales - GOV.UK

Thank you and take care.

Update received 11 January 2025

We hope you are well. Here is an update for recent days in Burbage.

Reported Crime and Appeals

  • Report of an attempt residential Burglary on Brookside (near Far Lash) at around 16:35 on Thursday 9th January. It appears 3 young males have attended a property, and one has tried to enter in fear of their own safety. It appears there has then been a conversation between the 3 youths, where a Canadian Goose coat was exchanged between them. Officers attended immediately and completed extensive area searches. We have completed follow up work to try and identify those involved and the exact circumstances of this incident. If you have any information that could help us resolve what went on, please pop me an email to darren.stretton@leics.police.uk
  • We received a report on the 10th of January that at around 16:30 on the 9th, a female was followed along Brookside (by the Chip shop). The reported behaviour and comments made by the male has caused concern. We are completing some CCTV checks in the area but again, if you have any information, get in touch. 25000018703
  • Report from Lupin Close that on the 11/01/2025 at 14:25, a male and female were attending properties in a suspicious manner. Clipboard and lanyard in hand but walking off when he saw the CCTV. If you spoke to either of these people, please pop us an email so we can clarify the purpose of their visits.

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

Over recent days, we have been working with partner agencies in relation to concerns such as suspicious behaviour, Cannabis use and vehicle related issues. We have also spent time locally investigating the above reported incidents to try and identify those involved.

Patrols include locations such as Rugby Road park, Brookside Park, Featherston Drive and the Herald Way area.

We have been speaking to local residents regarding issues around school areas due to dangerous parking and lack of road safety from parents attending schools. We continue to complete patrols when resource allows, and we are trying to encourage local schools to push road safety messages, and activities in the area. Some of the behaviour from motorists this week has been inconsiderate to local residents and potentially dangerous, we urge parents with children to ensure they are using resources such as the lollipop man/lady, rather than crossing further down the road to save 30 seconds. Keeping children safe outside school is everyone's responsibility, so we ask for support with this.

We are dealing with local shops to address shoplifting. Work such as arrests, collecting CCTV and completing statements. We visit local shops where there are issues, to ensure these crimes are reported correctly and ensure these reports are dealt with in a productive manner.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Due to a few observations we have made whilst out on patrols, please ensure that if you are away from your property (Holiday/work), PLEASE organise for parcels to be taken in by a trusted friend/neighbour, if they are dumped outside your front door for days it will appear that you are not there (also more likely your parcel could get taken). Please use light timers and get a neighbour to park on your drive.

Whilst out and about, it has also been noticed the number of cyclists without bicycle lights. These are often younger children. If you have kids or grandchildren who ride bikes to/from school, please have a word. We have previously visited local schools and fitted lights to bikes to support with this issue. I have a few small sets at the office if needed, drop me an email.

  • We have been working on one of our Policing Priorities this week, "Road safety". Part of this includes School patrols. As a result, a vehicle was seized for no licence on Atkins Way. I'm Sure it doesn't need me to say the potential dangers of someone driving a vehicle near school areas without a licence.
  • We have patrolled Hastings, Burbage Inf/Jnr's and Sketchley. Key points we have spoken to schools and motorists about include pavement parking outside schools at school times and blocking footpaths.
  • Whilst completing targeted patrols around the Three Pots Area, an engagement with a male in a vehicle led to an arrest. It all topped off a very busy few days.

Myself and Pc Josh have completed patrols around Burbage including areas such as the Three Pots area, Smithy Lane, Brookside and all School areas.

Some of you may have known PC Barry Miller who was the neighbourhood officer for Greater Hinckley for many years. He retired yesterday, so I would just like to say thank you and good luck to him. He was one of the first officers I met and crewed with occasionally when I started on the Burbage beat 8 years ago. How time flies.

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

Since our last update on the 23rd of December, there has been 44 calls to Police. 12 of these calls were emergency and 10 were priority calls. These calls include concerns such as concerns for safety, suspicious persons and criminal damage. Many of these calls were attended by officers, whilst other reports will be dealt with over the coming days as appropriate.

Please continue to be mindful around vehicle crime and residential burglary as we head into January. Based on historical crime figures, the early part of the year can see an increase in these types of crime. Feel free to get in touch if you have any concerns or would like any crime reduction support.

With schools closed and many local businesses shut, we have been completing lots of patrols, leaflet drops (as pictured above) and crime reduction work with residents over recent weeks. We are also planning some targeted work for when the schools return in January around road safety.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

As scams are an ever-increasing issue that affect residents of all ages, please see the National Cyber Security Centre site for lots of useful information. Everything from news to education, advice and hacked accounts. National Cyber Security Centre - NCSC.GOV.UK

The residential property was entered via the back door, lock being picked. As a result, the Audi A6 was taken from the drive. We have completed work in the area and the investigation is ongoing. • Report of further kitchen items being removed from new build properties on Lutterworth Road on the 18th into the 19th of December. If you live in an area where there are building sites or construction work, please call Police immediately with as much information as possible if you see anything suspicious, especially overnight. 24000751575

Occasionally, there can be incidents in Burbage which are either not primarily a Police incident, or it may not be appropriate to comment on. We will always do our best locally to ensure you are informed of local incidents that are of a community concern.

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

There have been a few road traffic incidents over the last ten days which have required Police attendance, in and around Burbage. As the colder and wet/icy weather draws in, please ensure you do the obvious such as check lights are all working, give yourself an extra few minutes to clear windows before you set off, and be extra careful around junctions on fast roads. Split second decisions can be lifechanging.

Burbage and Hinckley Police have been completing some work in the area over recent days which has got some good results. This includes work around drug dealing in the Bridge Road/train station area of Burbage. Arrest made and vehicle seized on Rugby Road for possession of class A drugs with intent to supply. We have also been completing door to door/CCTV checks relating to the theft of vehicle.

We have been completing home visits as requested by residents to support with items such as window alarms and light times. We have been communicating with residents and partner agencies around concerns raised that are not primarily Police issues but offer support to resolve these issues.

Patrols include areas such as Atkins Way and Brookside area as well as Woodland Avenue and Salisbury Road areas. We also spoke to residents and completed patrols/leaflet drops around Slate Drive, Navy Close, Ruby Close, Amber way estates and Azalea Drive/Hanover Court.

Out and about on Atkins Way. Think Santa needs to get me a better phone camera for next year. Some lovely lights and displays around Burbage this year.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Based on historic crime figures, January and February can see reports of vehicle crime, in particular Land Rover Range Rovers. If you own these types of vehicles, or keyless/high value vehicles, please ensure you have RFID wallets, use steering locks, use gates or bollards if you have them. As recent vehicle crime over the last 12 months has been due to breaks to the back of property to get keys, please ensure you are using house alarms and/or items such as window alarms, fence cactus spikes etc. I have attached our crime reduction catalogue for you to look through. Pop me an email if you want anything (sold at cost). Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

We continue to get sporadic reports regarding scams, these types of reports vary from attempts to actual loss. Relevant issues include an incident where a resident has sold an item online, sent the item, the payment was pending (PayPal) but then never cleared. The victim ultimately lost the cost of postage and the cost of the item. Please be extra vigilant when selling and buying items online. Please be mindful over Christmas and the New year as there are typically lots of sales, some of these may be scams.

Scam letter received by resident where he was informed, he was the beneficiary of a large amount of money from someone in Japan. Whilst the contents of the letter received was laughably bad, it is clear scammers will use tactics such as current events to gain your interest and try to make the scam more believable. These tactics can be used via email, actual letters, social media posts or phone calls. Please just delete, hang up or bin. Do not engage with these people.

Thank you and take care.

Update received on 15 December 2024

Over recent days, we have spent time patrolling the area, completing/identifying safeguarding work with mainly elderly residents and attending reported incidents. There have been 24 calls to Police, 5 of these were emergencies and 6 were priority calls.

Whilst patrolling in the area, local officers completed a stop check on a vehicle on Burbage Road. As a result, the vehicle was recovered for no insurance, the driver was arrested for possession with intent to supply class A drugs. Another vehicle was also seized from Watling Street following a stop check, where the driver was already disqualified from driving.

You may often hear about Police seizing vehicles for offences such as no insurance/tax or no license, these incidents can be linked on occasions to other serious crime such as drugs, burglary or thefts which have a wider impact on the community, that is also without mentioning the impact that drugs have on the user, and the danger to children in the area. Fantastic result on this occasion.

We try and send these messages out roughly every 5 days, but this may change dependant on crime. Everyone has a preference regarding how many messages they want but, part of this system is you can get messages from other departments such as Action Fraud, get safe online, NHW and OPPC. If you are getting too many emails, or not enough, you can subscribe and un-subscribe from these by clicking settings at the bottom of this email, logging in, then choosing from the information providers. Please ensure the "Police" option is ticked as this is where your local messages come from relating to Burbage. If you would like any support with this, pop me an email. We hope that you enjoy these messages and feel the value in reading them. We do our best to not "spam" you with emails, but we are not able to control what gets sent from other sources within this platform. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

We have completed a few bits of community engagement this week including our beat surgery at the SPAR on Lutterworth road and visited the HBBC Steady Steps Christmas party at Hinckley Rugby Club. We spoke to lots of residents and supported with crime prevention items such as RFID car wallets and personal attack alarms. We have also visited a few areas which have recently been subject to crime. We spoke to residents and completed leaflet drops whilst out and about at locations such as Manor Close/Way, Greenmoor Road and Hillside.

Just another reminder to be mindful around £20 notes. There have been a few reports from shops in Burbage over the last week or two where fake £20 notes are being used. Please be vigilant as to where you are getting your money from and what you are being given, especially if you are running a business. Suspects will typically try making small purchases to get the change and get rid of the fake note.

Thank you and take care.

Update received 11 December 2024

There have been several reports of residential burglary on the 7th and 8th of December.

Report from Lutterworth Road (near Passchendaele Drive) between the 5th and 7th of December, that the property was entered by unknown means. Items of jewellery taken. It appears the resident was not at the property at the time of the incident. 24000728688 if you have any information.

Report from Higham Way (near Sharpless Road) that a property was entered on the 7th, at around 18:00. It does not appear anything was taken at this time. No one was in the property at the time of the incident. 24000731011

Report from Azalea Drive (near Dahlia Close) where suspects have attempted to gain access to the back of the property. They have then walked in through the front door. Thankfully the dog was somewhat of a deterrent and the suspects made a quick exit. I have been informed that Sue at Mutt and Moggy has rewarded the dog with a bag of treats for being a hero. It is suspected the target of this crime was vehicle related. The incident occurred at around 20:10 on the 8th of December. It appears the suspects headed towards a vehicle in the direction of Rugby Road. If you have any CCTV or information regarding this, please pop us an email to darren.stretton@leics.police.uk. 24000729895

Please be mindful around general crime prevention methods throughout the day and night

  • If you have a high value/performance vehicle, use steering locks, RFID wallets. Lock doors and considers crime reduction items such as window alarms, fence cactus spikes and PIR alarms.
  • If you are on holiday or have an empty property, remove items such as jewellery and cash. Make the property look occupied with light timers, ask neighbours to park on your drive and ensure alarms are set (window alarms are also a great deterrent). Ensure ALL windows, gates, sheds and doors are locked.

There was also a report from Sapcote road where a dog was barking and outdoor lighting activated, on the 11th at 04:50. Officers attended and completed an area search, no trace and no reports of crime.

We would also just like to remind you, regarding any parcels you may have delivered. Please find a suitable location for them to be left if you are not in. If they get taken by an opportunistic criminal, it will be hard to get them replaced before Christmas.

Between Monday 25th November and Sunday 1st December 2024 local officers from Hinckley Police, Market Bosworth Police and Blaby Police took part in a week of enforcement against drug supply.

Nationally its referred to a County Line Intensification Week and locally across Leicester it was Op Gizmo-Yodels!

The week started slightly early when the Neighbourhood Priority Team spotted a car in Burbage that seemed to be having people get in the passenger seat for a few seconds and get out before moving off to another location, now either he was a rubbish taxi driver and was forgetting to take his fare on the journey or other items were being passed around. On being stopped the foolish chap was a disqualified driver and in the car in total was 123 smelly bags full of cannabis, some larger bags of cannabis, 13 deal bags of cocaine and over £1,000 in cash. A subsequent search of his home address led to further £12,000 in cash located in his sock draw! Well were else do you keep your hard earned cash in such an unpredictable economy? The subject has been released pending forensics enquiries for the drug offences and sent to court for the driving offences.

Also this week, further work was completed around drugs and arrests. This type of activity can also link in to other crimes and the general feeling of safety for the residents in the area.

Thank you and take care.

Update received 08 December 2024

Thank you for taking the time to read our regular updates. We understand the nature of our reports are making you aware of crime in Burbage, and we are not always able to advertise sensitive information such as arrests or information that may affect the investigation. Leicestershire Police do put out communication around arrests/sentencing on their website via this link News search | Leicestershire Police and, you can check for detailed information around crime, events and priorities in Burbage here Burbage | Your area | Leicestershire Police | Leicestershire Police

We are always looking to get new residents signed up to this platform, to raise awareness and hopefully support in reducing crime. Please encourage neighbours, friends and family to sign up here Home Page - Neighbourhood Link

PC Josh has been out and about in Burbage this week completing some patrols. While out and about he has noticed vehicles that have been left unattended with windows OPEN. This may seem obvious, but a large proportion of thefts appear to be from unlocked vehicles. Always check your vehicle is locked and the windows are up after using a key fob. If you have a keyless ignition car, please ensure your vehicle key is secured safely in a signal blocking pouch.

Please DO NOT leave gifts or personal belongings in your vehicle. This includes work laptops, bags, and wallets. It has been known that the bank cards will get used shortly after the theft, and the loss of sensitive information held on work devises will cause you an headache at work.

Images of some of the patrols in locations such as Kensington Avenue, Brookside garages and Sketchley Lane area.

Locally this week, we have been completing lots of work around suspects involved in crime such as residential burglary and vehicle theft. Arrests have been made in relation to multiple offences/incidents within Burbage and surrounding areas. We have also been collecting CCTV and trying to identify suspects in relation to a few thefts in the area (shops and hotels).

We are collating the feedback from the recent Police confidence survey results, so we will give you a summary of the responses and our plan going forward to address the results.

Thank you and take care.

Update received 02 December 2024

Update received on 29 November 2024

Here is an update for Burbage over the last week.

Report received of a Lurcher Greyhound that was taken from a garden in the Lychgate lane area. The dog was taken from a garden whilst the resident was out, on the morning of the 23rd between 04:00-08:00. It is suspected it was taken for hare coursing. The dog has since been handed in to a dog rescue centre and has been reunited with its owner, which is fantastic news. We generally do not get these types of issues in Burbage, but if you have a breed of dog that may be targeted, please be mindful around home security.

A suspect has been arrested in Burbage following patrols by officers. Stop check completed and suspect arrested for drugs supply as well as other offences. This type of positive action can help to disrupt and prevent multiple types of crime in the area which has many impacts on the community.

Whilst throughout the year, we get occasional reports of parcels being stolen from front gardens, please ensure that a "safe place" or trusted neighbour can be provided to delivery companies. With people buying expensive gifts online at this time of year, there may be an increase in this type of crime.

Report of diesel being taken from multiple vans at a location on Watling Street. Whilst these types of incidents are usually targeted at industrial estates, if you have a van at your property, please consider parking in a way that the fuel cap is difficult to get to. Building sites, large and small can also be targets for criminals and can get targeted for newly fitted items or tools that have been left on site. If you live by a new build and see anything or anyone suspicious, please call 999 immediately if you suspect there to be a crime in progress, especially overnight.

HBBC - Public buildings and spaces around the borough are offering a warm welcome

The Warm Welcome initiative aims to ensure that everyone knows where they can go to meet other people, have a hot drink and keep warm for free. There may also be the opportunity to have a snack or a light meal, take part in activities such as crafts or playing board games, and to make use of computers or free Wi-Fi.

You can also access a range of information, support and guidance on issues such as energy efficiency, wellbeing, money and budgeting.

Our local community has embraced this initiative, and we are fortunate to have more than 50 venues around the borough, providing more than. These venues are open to all and cover a broad range of organisations, including community centres, churches, village halls, community libraries, charities and leisure venues.

Barlestone, Barwell and Burbage | Warm welcome locations | Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council

We attended the Burbage Christmas Market which was once again a massive success. Great to see so many families and familiar faces. Lots of chats around crime, home security and local work. Items such as car key wallets were very popular this year so this will hopefully support in keeping incidents of car theft minimal over the coming months. Big thanks again to our Police volunteer Jackie, who really helps us in attending these events.

Thank you and take care.

Update received on 24 November 2024

We hope you are keeping well and managing to keep out the wind and rain. Hopefully it picks up a bit for the Burbage Christmas Market this Friday (29th November 16:00-21:00, Windsor Street), where we will have our stall full of crime reduction items.

Overall, there has been minimal reports of crime in Burbage this week. A couple of incidents to make you aware of though, are a couple thefts from vans at the Jury's Inn and Sketchley Grange Hotel where the van doors were cut and power tools taken. These 2 incidents occurred on the afternoon of the 19th and early hours of the 20th of November.

Please continue to be mindful around crime such as shed breaks and theft from vehicles, especially in the late afternoon and overnight. Outdoor lighting, alarm padlocks and removing targeted items will help reduce/prevent these types of issues.

We have been out and about patrolling Burbage, to address local concerns such as residential Burglary, theft from vehicles and highway issues. Whilst out patrolling the area PC Josh responded to a burglary in progress on Sapcote Road. Only being a short distance away, he arrived in minutes of the call being made. Thankfully it was only the wind. Similar call also on Tilton Road where we attended but it was a false alarm.

A resident has been in touch to appeal for a Silver Stainless ladies rotary watch with small square face and metal bracelet, which has been lost. Areas of note may be from St Catherine's Church, Coventry Rd, Three pots and Denis road area. Pop me an email if you find it about, sure it would make someone very happy. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Op Sceptre - Knife Crime Awareness week:

Targeted work completed by local officers to address knife crime. We were working closely with the staff and security at Bounty and LE10 to raise awareness of knife crime. Our knife arch was up and as a condition of entry to the premises anyone coming into the venue passed through to ensure they were not carrying weapons.

No weapons were located and some great conversations were had with people who were very grateful for the work of the local beat team in keeping people safe on their night out!

Earlier in the evening local officers conducted plain clothes patrols in hot spot areas and quickly spotted a male who had bail conditions to be indoors after 7pm and not to be in the Hinckley and Burbage area. He was quickly detained and arrested and taken to custody where he was charged with burglary and will be off to court.

Thank you and take care.

Burbage Beat Team.

Update received 18 November 2024

We hope you are well, here is a quick update regarding crime in Burbage.

We have been completing work on the recent incidents regarding two suspects trying vehicle doors around Greenmoor Road, Troon Way and Manor Close areas on the morning of the 14th between 00:20 and 02:30. Thank you if you managed to send us CCTV, we are trying to identify these suspects.

Thanks to a resident who found a bicycle, and our last Neighbourhood link message, we were able to re-unite a stolen bicycle (linked to the above incidents) with its owner.

As there is always a chance certain types of people are about, please ensure vehicle doors are locked, no property is left inside and ensure items such as bicycles are locked and secure.

We received a report of a residential Burglary near Greenmoor Road where the patio doors have been damaged. It appears the target of this crime was a camper van on the drive, which thankfully has not been taken. If you own a caravan/camper van, please ensure wheel locks are used and lock gates/block it in with another vehicle if possible.

Report of a theft of a Citroen Berlingo van from Lychgate Lane on the night of the 16th of November, between 21:50-22:50. The van has been recovered following it being involved in a road traffic collison on Watling Street. This incident is currently being investigated. 24000685128

The Indoor Christmas market event was a huge success with plenty of residents attending. We also visited the Co-op for our monthly beat surgery. Concerns discussed during these events included residential burglary and vehicle crime. We met some lovely people which is always a pleasure. Big thanks to Jackie who always supports us in Burbage with events that we attend.

PC Josh and I have been completing some late-night patrols around Burbage. Lots of Christmas lights and trees already on display around the village. If you are going all out on displays and decorations this year, please just be mindful to lock up any larger items and put them in the garage/shed overnight if possible. A sad as it is, in previous years, some of these beautiful displays have been stolen overnight.

Just a reminder that the Burbage Christmas Market will be on Windsor Street as usual on Friday the 29th of November from around 16:00 – 22:00. We will be in attendance with our crime reduction items. It is usually a great community event so please pop along. (Remember the road closures on Windsor street).

Thank you and take care.

Report of a shed break on Lutterworth Road (near the Chequers inn) from the night of the 30th until the 1st. Please consider shed alarms and keep garage doors shut, side gates locked and any valuable items you store in the garden, out of sight as much as possible. Timeframe is between 22:00 on the 30th and 09:00 on the 1st. 24000652060 darren.stretton@leics.police.uk if you have any information.

Please be aware around online scams on social media. Scammers can, and will "hack" legitimate accounts and use them to sell items. They will provide PayPal account number and scam money from you. Please be very careful as we approach Christmas as these types of crime will increase as people look to purchase items online. If it is too good to be true, it is. If you are buying items from friends online, give them a call first. Banks often advise to pay online with credit cards as they offer increased protection (just make sure you pay it off asap so you do not get hit with interest).

One person arrested this week for burglary. We have also attended a local school to speak with youths around assaults, no incidents reported relating to Halloween and we have also supported residents with crime reduction items following multiple residential burglaries in October.

Report of a fight on Church Street at around 21:30 on Saturday 2nd of November. Officers attended and the investigation is ongoing. 24000654833. This appears to be an isolated incident.

Report of a break in, to a property on the new builds on Lutterworth Road, where the kitchen units were taken (5th into the 6th of November). We are also speaking to the site manager on the new Sketchley Lodge site on Sketchley lane, following theft of diesel. Any new builds can get targeted for crime as these sites (large and small) can be easy targets. As well as targeted patrols, we give advice such as not leaving tools and high value items onsite, getting CCTV/lighting, improving boundary fences and onsite security. If you see anyone entering a building site overnight and believe a crime is in progress, please call 999 immediately.

We will be attending the Indoor Christmas Market in Aid of the Emma Shaw Foundation Charity, on Sunday the 17th of November 2024 from 12:00-16:00. There will be lots of stalls, raffles, tombola and warm drinks. Pop along to this event at Burbage Millennium Hall LE102HF for a bit of Christmas fun.

Thank you and take care.

Update received 1st November 2024

There have been no further reports of residential burglary or vehicle crime in Burbage over recent days. There have been a few reports of suspicious activity though (The Fairway, Sapcote Road and Sketchley Road). This is mainly unknown persons attending properties and looking around. It appears this may be more door sales etc than anything criminal but certainly worth remaining vigilant, as there has been reports of vehicle thefts and burglaries in other local areas. Please remember to call 999 immediately if you see a crime in progress.

No reports as of yet in relation to any Halloween related Anti-social behaviour, which is fantastic to see. We hope you had a fun night if you were out and about. We are continuing our dedicated patrols in the area over the week as we lead into Bonfire night.

We have been notified by highways of a further wide load passing through Burbage. Please see below.

I have attached our Burbage Newsletter which show our priorities as decided by you, along with a summary of Burbage crime for October.

We have spent time this week working with residents around concerns such as isolated anti-social behaviour, crime reduction, suspicious persons and reports of drug use/dealing. Communication with local schools to identify those involved, checking CCTV, and working with partner agencies such as HBBC all support in safeguarding and resolving issues.

Thankfully this week, there have been no further reports of residential burglary in Burbage. This follows 3 reports around the 8th and a further 3 reports around the 15th. We are continuing to investigate and raise awareness regarding these types of crime, which historically increase during the darker nights. We continue to offer support and complete patrols in the area, so please get in touch if you would like any support in the prevention of residential burglary or vehicle crime.

So far this month in Burbage, Police have received 124 calls. 20 of these have been emergency calls and 32 were priority calls. This includes a call of suspicious persons in the three pots area last night, Police attended immediately and completed searches. No issues. We have also seized vehicles for a range of offences and recovered stolen bikes in the area.

We attended Three Pots post office for our monthly beat surgery. We spoke to several residents where subjects such as road safety and residential burglary were discussed. Also met some very polite youths, hopefully the bike lights we supplied will be of use during the winter months.

I have attached the "No Thanks" trick or treat poster again if you wish to print it off. We have completed work with local shops, and we have also contacted the Hinckley beat team for similar work regarding the sales of eggs to youths over the Halloween period, in order to reduce the risk of anti-social behaviour. We will also be completing targeted patrols in the area during key times.

We have been notified of a couple of found bicycles in Burbage. If you recognised these, please get in touch asap.

There were several reports of suspicious activity around the Manor Close area, around 18:00-19:00 on the 18th of October. It appears there was a group in the area representing a Milk delivery company. Due to concerns raised, I have spoken to the company involved. They were understanding and apologetic regarding some of the concerns raised.

Report of theft of tools from a van parked on Sketchley Grange hotel car park on the night of the 22nd of October. The side door lock had been cut and several DeWalt tools taken. Please be reminded not to leave tools on vans, especially on car parks. Consider additional security to your van if it is not possible to remove them.

We have recovered a stolen motorbike from the area this week. One arrest has been made.

Report of a break at a unit on Sketchley Meadows industrial estate. Several laptops were taken. Just a reminder, if you own a business, please remove cash or valuables. If you are unable to do this, please ensure alarms are fitted and set.

A resident has been in contact regarding a text message received. The message related to "applications for the winter heating subsidy" (Winter fuel allowance). The message basically claims that although the government have stopped most of these payments , you can complete a form via the link within the text and you will get it. Please DO NOT click these links or give any personal details. Delete these types of messages as they are scams. Scammers will often take opportunities based on current events to take advantage of those people who may be struggling and looking for support. If you have any concerns, please directly visit the government website to see if you are still eligible.

We are continuing to complete work in the area in relation to the recent burglaries, which includes victim support, crime reduction, CCTV work and patrols. We are also working with residents in relation to suspicious activity, neighbour disputes and parking issues.

Update received 13th October 2024

We have received a report which occurred on the night of the 7th into the 8th of October. There appears to have been an attempt break into a garage on Balliol Road. Damage was caused to the top and bottom of the garage door but thankfully, no entry was made. It is suspected the target of the crime, was motorbike related. Whilst we have completed work in the immediate area, please take a look at any CCTV you may have, if you live around this area. Vehicle seized on Brookside following a stop check by officers in the area for no insurance (S165 powers on the 11th of October).

We are aware of a red vehicle in the ditch on Lutterworth Road towards the A5. Officers have attended and contacted the registered keeper. Police tape has been put on the vehicle, although it may be hard to see as you go past due to the position of the vehicle. Hopefully it will be removed soon.

We have attended the Hinckley Fire and rescue event at Hinckley Fire station on Saturday the 12th. It was a very busy event where emergency services raised awareness around vehicle/road related incidents. People of all ages attended and hopefully some of the work such as the videos and demonstrations, will help drivers think twice about the potential consequences of speeding, drink/drug driving.

We also completed our Darker nights crime prevention event at Burbage Millennium Hall. Hopefully the support given to residents at events like these and throughout the year, helps in reducing incidents of crime. As always, it is great to speak to residents face to face and help out. If you would like any crime prevention support, pop me an email darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Update received 9th October 2024

I have added a "No Thanks" Halloween poster to this message (should be at the bottom of this message) for you to print if you wish. We are completing work with local shops over the coming days in preparation for Halloween, with the aim of limiting any Anti-social behaviour towards the end of October.

Update received 4th October 2024

Update for Burbage over recent days. No reports of vehicle theft or residential burglary in Burbage, which is great. Please be aware that there are reports from local areas such as Hinckley, relating to theft of motorbikes, residential burglary and theft of high value/performance vehicles, so please be mindful of this.

If you see anything suspicious (crimes in progress), please call 999 immediately as it appears these criminals will target several properties within a short space of time.

Please keep motorbikes, mopeds and off road bikes out of sight, locked up and use shed alarms. If you have younger family members who own bikes, please support them in ensuring they are aware of these measures.

We have visited St Catherine's Church this week. We were invited to speak to residents around local crime and scams. It was a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness and support with crime reduction. We are always happy to support local groups, as it gives us the opportunity to speak to residents that may not otherwise see us. Pop me an email if you would like a visit/input around crime/crime reduction subjects in Burbage. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Patrols around Burbage over recent nights include local parks, areas raised as concerns by residents and general checks of areas all around Burbage.

As requested by residents, we completed a community speed watch on Church Street this week, in the 20Mph zone. We monitored 186 vehicles between 15:50 – 16:35, at multiple different locations within the 20Mph zone from both directions. Speeds of the 8 offending vehicles ranged from 25Mph to 29Mph.

A concern often raised by residents around Church Street is regarding the lorries that use this route. I was previously informed that the Church Street route (Lutterworth Road – Hinckley Road) has been a High load/Heavy load approved route by the county council for around 25-30 years. Obviously with the increase in local transport sites, this concern may be more noticeable now, than years ago. An increase in larger vehicles is often seen when there are closures/accidents on the A5. You can contact LCC Highways if you would like to raise concerns around this.

Don't forget we are at the Burbage Millennium Hall, Britannia Road, LE102HF, on Sunday 13th October (next Sunday) from 12:00-16:00 with our range of sold at cost crime prevention event that we have arranged for residents. These items can certainly make a difference when it comes to preventing opportunistic crimes, so please pop along.

Update received 30th September 2024

Please see below the Burbage Police Newsletter for October which includes our new beat priorities of Residential Burglary, vehicle crime and Anti-social behaviour (as requested by Burbage residents).

Report of a suspicious male trying shed doors and looking into gardens in the Brookside/Holt Road area on Friday 27th September between 13:30 – 16:30. If you have any information, please get in touch. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk 24000582782. We are currently working on identifying the person involved.

Report of a van being stolen from a forecourt of a garage on Watling street whilst the driver was in the garage. The van contained parcels, van has since been recovered by Police. 24000582782. We have previously seen vans and cars that are delivering parcels, get targeted. If any delivery drivers are reading this message, please remember to lock your vehicle and remove keys. There may be a few unhappy customers with missing parcels.

Several further reports of crime affecting businesses in Burbage this week. Report of diesel thefts from vehicle on Sketchley industrial estate and a burglary to the vape shop on Rainbow way. The Vape shop burglary occurred at around 01:00 on the morning of the 28th. The front door glass has been smashed and a quantity of vape pens taken. 24000578868 if you have any information.

Thankfully most of the flooding has gone but please be aware roads are still very wet and there are locations that are still dangerous. We have had several reports of vehicles leaving the road, including on Lutterworth Road and Rugby Road. It appears everyone is ok, but please take extra care when out and about.

We do get occasional reports regarding businesses, where residents have seen adverts on sites such as Facebook, from local traders. This can be for work such as gardening or home repairs. On occasions, these traders may not meet the expectations of the customer (quality of work, overcharging or even taking money and never completing work). These incidents are often civil issues and Police do not get involved where work/price has been agreed. This will come under trading standards. Please be very mindful of adverts on social media. It is best to use businesses/people you may know or have friends/family who have had work done. Ratings, friendly adverts and "online reviews" are not always reliable and can leave you out of pocket and very frustrated. Never pay out without the correct paperwork and check out the trading standards website to ensure you are protecting yourself.

Report of stolen registration plates from a vehicle on Jubilee Way. Incident appears to have occurred overnight on the 29th of September. We have a quantity of anti-theft screws at the office (£1 per pack). Stolen VRM's can be used in crime, parking offences and other traffic related offences. Remember to pop up to the Millennium hall on Sunday 13th October, 12:00-16:00 if you would like any support.

Update received 27th September 2024

Report of a burglary on Sapcote Road (near Winchester Drive junction) around 23:25 on the 23rd of September. Suspects smashed the patio door, but it appears they fled due to the alarm activating. Police were called and attended immediately, an area search no trace. If you have any CCTV or information relating to this, please contact us darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Report of a burglary on Brookside (near Bridge Road/shops). Whilst the time of the event is uncertain, it is thought that around 20:00 on the 23rd is a possible time of the incident. The rear door of the property was smashed, and an untidy search completed. 24000570666 if you have any information.

Report of a business burglary on Hinckley Road (Lox hair). Items taken including the till. Incident occurred between 18:00 on the 24th and 09:00 on the 25th. It is possible the break happened around 00:30 (hopefully that helps if you have any CCTV in the area). 24000572623

Several years ago, hairdressers got targeted for theft of tills, we advise any local shops to ensure no cash is left on site overnight as they can be easy targets. If you own a small business in Burbage, please get in touch if you would like any advice/crime reduction support. Items such as PIR sensor alarms and window alarms are really useful deterrents.

If you live in the Lupin Close/Aster Way area and have CCTV, could you take a look for 2 electric motorcycles in the area on Friday 20th of September at around 20:15. Whilst the report is around the manner of driving/suspicious activity, it would be good to identify these vehicles to establish what they were up to. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

This week, we have been completing CCTV and door to door investigations relating to the residential burglaries, visited the Jury's Inn to discuss crime reduction around theft from vehicles, completed a beat surgery at the SPAR where we spoke to residents around a range of concerns and helped with a bit of road safety (bicycle lights) for some of the children popping in. Other tasks include neighbour disputes and youth related issues.

As part of our range of road safety work, we have visited a few areas with the speed monitor. We visited Forresters Road Burbage, Brodick Road and Clarendon Road (the volunteer is Hinckley based). We were going to do more in Burbage, but the heavy rain got a bit much. We will hopefully visit a few more locations based on resident requests soon. Regarding Burbage, overall speeds seemed very sensible other than one vehicle driving at 42Mph.

We visited Kids Planet on Hinckley Road as requested, to speak to the children about road safety. We took along old Police uniform and the Burbage Bear for them to play with. It was a pleasure to meet them all.

Update received 22nd September 2024

This week in Burbage. We have suffered several residential burglaries to properties where the residents were away. Please consider light timers, window alarms and other crime reduction items to deter opportunistic criminals. Items such as watches, other jewellery and cash are often the target of this activity. If you live in the area of the 3 below incidents, please get in touch if you have any information that would support with investigations.

Residential burglary reported from St James close sometime between the 16th and 20th of September. The patio doors were smashed, and an untidy search of the house done. If you noticed any suspicious behaviour in the area, please get in touch. 24000564974.

Residential burglary reported on Manor Close between 21:45 and 22:30 on the 20th of September. Suspects entered through a back window (crowbar). Untidy search and items taken. Please check your CCTV if you live around this area for any suspicious vehicles/activity. 24000565218

You may already be aware, but please take a minute to read the below article via the link and barcode. This relates to a community appeal for a Hastings school teacher for possible life-extending immunotherapy injections. A fantastic effort so far, by all at Hastings High school, to raise the money needed. We wish Stephen all the best.

'Save our Stephen' event for 'incredibly inspirational' Leicestershire teacher diagnosed with cancer - Leicestershire Live (leicestermercury.co.uk)

As requested by resident, Event.

There is a Macmillan coffee morning at the Burbage Surgery on Thursday 26th September from 09:00-12:00 if you would like to pop in.

Resident scam awareness.

A resident has been in touch regarding an advert in a magazine for a "garden shop". An item was ordered online, but no purchase confirmation was received, and it became more obvious this was a scam. Ultimately the resident was supported through their bank.

If you are purchasing items online, please use a credit card as this gives you more cover than other payment methods, especially with Christmas months away. Adverts, websites and reviews may make companies look legitimate and professional, but this is not always the case.

We have also had multiple reports from residents where they are getting text messages around "parking fines". It appears these are phishing scams. Please do not respond, and block these as much as you can. Other reports include email account being hacked and camera of laptop being hacked. These types of messages are phishing and will often use tactics such as blackmail or scare tactics to get money from you. Please do not respond or pay any money. These can be reported to Action Fraud.

Update received 18th September 2024

A report of a break in to an unoccupied property under renovation, on Duport Road. The incident is understood to have occurred between 02:00-03:00 on the morning of the 10th. We have spent the last few days investigating the recent bicycle thefts and a shed break at the locations of Copper Drive, Woodland Avenue and Forryan Road in the early hours of 14th. Please ensure mopeds, motorbikes and bicycles are locked away and out of sight of opportunistic criminals.

We have visited the Coventry Building society in Hinckley today, where we spoke to residents (some Burbage residents) around scams and home security

As part of our ongoing work in relation to crime reduction around vehicle crime, we have visited locations such as the Jury's Inn to complete patrols and support with prevention of theft from vehicles (particularly tools from vans). Theft from vehicles at locations such as hotels and car parks are a large percentage of the overall theft from vehicles in Burbage. Please bear this in mind if you are leaving your vehicle on a car park.

We are at the SPAR on Lutterworth Road on the 24th of September from around 15:00 – 16:30, if you would like to pop along for a chat or look at some of the crime prevention items.

One for the diary, we are holding our "darker nights" crime prevention event at Burbage Millennium Hall on Sunday 13th of October from 12:00-16:00. We hold these events in preparation for historic increases in crime such as residential burglary and car theft, as we head into the darker nights and winter.

Update received 16th September 2024

It appears that bikes (motorbikes and bicycles) are getting targeted over recent nights, so please check your shed and ensure you are using locks and other crime prevention methods.

We received a report of youths trying to enter the old garage on Hinckley Road. The incident occurred on the 8th of September at 16:15. Whilst these children may have been messing around, this is still breaking and entering, that's without mentioning the potential dangers of getting into a derelict building. If you have any information as to who these youths are, please pop me an email so we can have a word. 24000536950. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Theft of a motorbike reported from Brookside on the 9th of September into the 10th. The motorbike was taken from a locked shed (near the Higham way junction) between 1800 and 0600. The bike is a Triumph Street, in silver if you have any information. 24000541480.

Whilst out and about, officers have stopped checked a vehicle near Logix Road. As a result, a male was arrested for drug drive.

A resident has been in touch regarding a bicycle that has been found. Please get in touch if this is yours (proof needed) Ammaco mtx300

Report received of an attempt shed break on Woodland Avenue (near Pickering Place) at around 03:00-03:10 on the morning of the 14th. Two suspects were seen and disturbed at the location. It is suspected this incident was bike related. If you have any CCTV in the area of Woodland Avenue, Hinckley Road, The Meadows, please take a look and get in touch if you have anything of evidential value. It appears one of the suspects left through the allotment area. 24000549474

We have also just received a report that a Carrera Vengeance has been taken from an address on Copper drive overnight (13th into 14th September). Whilst we are still waiting on further information, it appears this incident occurred overnight. If you have any information, please get in touch. LEP-140924-0252

Please consider fence cactus spikes, shed alarms, signage and ensure bikes/bicycles are locked, secured, out of sight and alarmed if possible. I have attached our crime prevention catalogue, so pop me an email if you would like any items or further support. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

We would also like to say thank you for the kind and positive feedback, and ratings we have had regarding these messages. We are not perfect, but hopefully the information we send out raises awareness, reduces crime and helps victims when we appeal for information.

Update received 8th September 2024

Report of a group of males in the area of Lucas Road at 01:26 on the morning of the 4th, walking around talking about "smashing a car window". Officers attended but no trace of the suspects. Please be mindful to ensure items such as wallets, bags and laptops are removed from vehicles. No reports of damage or theft relating to this call. LEP-040924-0037

On the night of Friday 6th of September, several reports were received from Forresters Road due to initial fears of theft of motor vehicles. Officers attended immediately and completed an area search. Following investigations, it appears that this incident, which caused a lot of lot of community concern, was due to a group kicking and punching residential doors and climbing on vehicles. We have identified several persons involved and we are in the process of dealing with this behaviour. If you have any CCTV/Ring footage of this behaviour at locations such as Grove Road and Forresters Road between 21:00 and 22:30 on that night, please email it to me darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Report of stolen registration plates from a vehicle on Woodland Avenue. It is suspected the plates were taken on the 2nd of September at around 21:00. If you are leaving your vehicle away from home, consider locations where CCTV or street lighting is present. Also consider Anti-theft VRM screws. 24000527943

Patrols around Burbage by myself and Pc Josh, keeping a look out for "suspicious" characters and attending incidents. It's been a very busy week.

There was a report of what appears to be a rogue trader in the area of Cardinal Drive. The suspects offered services such as jet washing windows, soffits and doors. A price was agreed with the resident. The "workers" have spent around 15 minutes at the location and then requested a lot more money than discussed. Pressure tactics used to acquire more money include asking/telling the resident to go to the cash machine. Often, these types of persons may often use false registration plates, which makes it very difficult for us locate and deal with them. These incidents can also fall under trading standards or civil issues, dependant on the incident. Please be very careful regarding door-to-door sales and it is best to not agree to work.

We attended Burbage common open day today (8th September). After a wet start, it turned out to be a sunny day and a fantastically well attended event. We spoke to a lot of residents, and supported with crime prevention items. Lots of Burbage residents about, and also from the wider area.

Pc Miller from Hinckley joined us, where children sat in the Police car. We had some really nice feedback which is always great to hear.

Update received 5th September 2024

A bit of good news to share with you sent in by a resident. Due to the nature of the information we put out regarding youths, we would mention that incidents of anti-social behaviour and youth related crime are often committed by a small number of youths. Below is a message sent in by a resident, celebrating some of the better behaviour.

"I just wanted to give you something that hopefully you will be able to share with our local community. During the holidays four young lads (3 from Hastings High and the other from Hinckley, year 10) knocked our door and asked if they could clean our cars. After a little hesitation, we agreed and provided the water for their own little jet wash and some soap which made us laugh. They made really good jobs of the cleaning, were very polite when we spoke to them and told them they were upcoming entrepreneurs!! We also told them we would be contacting you with this information as a credit to our local community."

We do get mentions of other positive behaviour such as handing in lost property and "doing the right thing", which is great, and can be said for a lot of younger people in Burbage.

We have recovered a stolen Range Rover (out of area), in Burbage as well as seized a vehicle for no insurance/license over recent days whilst officers were out and about in Burbage.

We received a report of 2 or 3 suspicious males in a garden on Brookside (near Fletcher Road junction) with torches on the morning of the 2nd of September between 04:00 and 04:30. Officers completed an area search, and a crowbar was recovered from the area. If you have any CCTV that may identify those involved, please pop me an email darren.stretton@leics.police.uk LEP-020924-0068

As the darker nights draw in, please consider light timers and window alarms. Pop me an email if you would like any support. We should have our range of crime prevention items at Burbage Common open day this Sunday, if you want to drop by.

We visited Sketchley Primary school to speak to students about a range of subjects including the impact on victims of bullying, and visited the Burbage Library to discuss scams and general crime/prevention in Burbage. We were joined by two staff members from the Coventry building society, and the event was a great success which I hope residents found useful.

Business related crime this week includes a further report of burglary on Sketchley Meadows industrial estate where a van was stolen and continued reports of shoplifting at shops in Burbage. One person was arrested, and other work is being completed to address the theft of alcohol from stores in the area.

Update received 30th August 2024

Please see the monthly newsletter for Burbage below. Here are a few things to pass on as we head into September.

Over recent weeks there have been reports of "suspicious activity/persons" in the area. This includes a suspect arriving in a dark coloured vehicle on Coventry Road (near Pyeharps Road) at 20:50 on the 19th of August and then appearing to look around cars. Vehicles and residential property are probable targets overall for these reports over recent weeks and will be a we head towards the darker nights. Please continue to be mindful around home and vehicle security. Please call 999 immediately if you see or suspect a crime in progress.

We have had complaints regarding school children throwing stones at property on Sunnyhill Road. If you have children that leave school in that direction, please ask them not to engage in this behaviour. Thankfully we do not yet have any crime reports for damage to vehicles or smashed windows. We have also already had to complete targeted patrols of parks due to children "arranging" to meet up for fights. Whilst this is something that may have always happened, we see these types of incidents get out of hand. With social media (everyone recording the incident/peer pressure) and parents increasingly getting involved, these types of issues can end up with Police involvement and ultimately criminal records. We ask that these conversations can be had with children.

Arrests have been made following some motorbike thefts this week. The incidents mainly occurred in the Hinckley area but also one in Burbage. Many of the bikes have been recovered but please ensure motorbikes/mopeds, are locked up out of sight.

We have spent time this week supporting with road safety, especially with the schools returning. We have visited Hastings, having acquired some signage and banners (as below).

If you fancy a trip to the fire station, please see below for their road safety event on Saturday 12th October. Put it in your diary, should be great for younger children and new drivers. Please also see attached a poster regarding drink/drug drive which is informative.

Report of an attempt residential Burglary on Newstead Avenue. It is suspected the incident occurred between 03:00-05:00 on either the morning of the 29th or 30th. An attempt has been made to enter the property via the back patio doors where the lock has been damaged. We suspect this is vehicle related. Please ensure steering locks are used and consider a Patlock and window alarms. Fence spikes, locking gates and removing items such as bins from near gates can slow down any criminals. 24000515904 if you saw anything suspicious in the area.

Report of a theft of a BMW X1 from the Miller and Carter on Watling Street at around 08:45 on the 28th of August. It appears the vehicle was loaded onto a trailer. Investigation ongoing. If you have any knowledge of this incident, please drop me an email. 24000515904. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

A couple of events we are attending over the next week or so.

  • Burbage library on Wednesday 4th September from around 1400-1600. I Believe someone from the building society will also be there to support/advise around scams.
  • We also plan on being at the rearranged Burbage common open day on Sunday 8th September from around 11:30-16:00.

Update received 29th August 2024

We hope you are keeping well, just returned from a bit of annual leave (again), so here is an update for the last 2 weeks in Burbage.

There have been several incidents of fuel theft from Sketchley industrial estate and the Watling Street area. Also, a white van stolen from the estate. Whilst this type of crime will generally be targeted at larger vehicles, please consider leaving your vehicle in a well-lit area and close to your property if possible.

On the 22nd of August, it appears there has been suspicious activity during the daytime (between 12:00-12:30) where a van has been in the areas of Flamville Road, Lychgate Lane and Ilminster Close. It is suspected the males were checking out/attempting to make entry to residential properties. No entry has been made, or items taken. If you are able to identify a white or grey van in the area around this time, please pop me an email. 24000502621 darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

It seems males were knocking on doors to see if anyone was in, then either using ladders to try and enter properties through upstairs windows, or in the case of Ilminster Close, have attempted to gain entry by snapping the back door lock.

Most crime such as residential burglary is opportunistic so, please use visual deterrents such as CCTV, signage (Dog at this address), house alarms and window alarms. Please also consider locking windows, even upstairs, if the property is empty. Jewellery and cash are often the targets of residential burglary so please hide/lock them away. Pop me an email if you would like our crime prevention items catalogue or would like any support.

Stop checks completed and vehicles seized at locations such as Brookside, East Close and Watling Street.

I would like to pass on a shared concern raised by a resident, particularly around younger drivers engaging in drink/drug driving. If you have any older teenage children/grandchildren, please have a chat to ensure they are aware of the dangers of either driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol or getting into a vehicle with someone under the influence. Please take a minute to have a chat with them to ensure they make the right decision. The video link below is something I watched a while back from Derbyshire Police which really makes you think and will hopefully "hit home" to any younger person tempted to make a bad decision. Just a Second: Parents share reality of drink drive car crash (youtube.com) (some people may find the footage distressing, please read warning on video first).

Thank you and take care.

Darren and Josh.

Update received 12th August 2024

We have received a call regarding a "suspicious person looking for work" in the area. We have identified the person whilst on patrol, details taken and given words of advice given. No offences committed, but activities such as cold calling raise local concerns as these types of activities often do. If anyone does knock at your door selling goods or offering services such as gardening, tree cutting, roof repairs etc, please do not engage as there can be issues around inflated prices, bad workmanship and pressure/misleading sales. These types of issues generally increase during the summer months. See link for more information and advice Doorstep scams | Scams and fraud | Age UK and Door to door sales - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

We have been notified that a wide load will be passing through Burbage on Thursday 22nd of August. This is the first one in around 3 years. It should be in the area sometime between 13:00-16:00 so if you live along Lutterworth Road, Hinckley Road and particularly Church Street, please try to keep the area as clear as possible so the vehicle can get out the area asap. There will be updates on Burbage Parish council Facebook page so keep a look out for them as plans can always change. If you know anyone in the area not using Email or social media, who owns a vehicle, please let them know. We are aware of planned road/Fibre works in the area, and traffic are communicating with them around this.

In response to recent complaints regarding large groups of youths behaving in an anti-social manner on Britannia Park playing fields (alcohol, litter and screaming), We are reviewing CCTV and completing patrols to challenge those involved. Whilst we appreciate the weather is nice and it is the school holidays, it is unacceptable to be behaving like that due to the potential age of the youths and impact on residents. Patrols ongoing in the evening this week at locations including Britannia Park, Hinckley Road, Tilton Road, Rugby Road, Passchendaele Road and Colts Close. Over recent nights, we have spoken to youths who have been very polite and no issues which has been great.

A young Burbage resident correctly named the teddy bear which we had at the Burbage Carnival and other events in Hinckley. Arla, correctly named the bear "Aiden", and he is now having plenty of cuddles with his new friends. Congratulations.

We have been working on several parking complaints including Britannia Road/Workhouse Lane. These issues mainly revolve around parking near junctions. Whilst we do what we can to address these concerns, such as make contact with the keeper, issue letters, section 59's, seize vehicles where appropriate, we would ask that residents park in a safe and considerate manner. I'm sure it is appreciated the amount of work that ends up going in to dealing with these complaints and how time consuming it can be, we also are not able to deal with every complaint due to resources, so would really appreciate resident support in keeping the roads safe. We will be investing time over the next month around the schools re-opening so ask that we are supported with keeping pedestrians and road users safe. I have attached the "think before you park" leaflet we will be using over the coming weeks/months.

We visited the Co-op on Boyslade Road today for our monthly beat surgery. We spoke to lots of residents and gave away some bicycle lights to local shoppers. Lovely to see people and catch-up. Thank you.

Scams sent in by residents to raise awareness.

Please be aware of adverts you may see on sites such as Facebook. A recent concern was relating to a Facebook advert from a company selling "out of warranty" laptops from ex Aldi stock. The resident paid the £2 fee to sign up but then discovered money was being charged to their bank card on a weekly basis, which they had not consented to.

Facebook Market Place Renting scam

Please be mindful if you are looking at home rentals. Scammers can/will use legitimate estate agent advertisements to trick you into paying money. Please do your own independent searches to identify the correct company before you consider paying money or giving personal details. May be best not to use links or phone numbers from adverts, rather go direct to official websites.

A resident has been in touch to suggest people could use/sign up, to the Which? Scam alerts. If you are interested in getting messages around these types of issues you can sign up for free here Scam Alerts service – sign up, it's free (which.co.uk) Being aware of scams can often help in avoiding falling victim to them, and with scams becoming more difficult to spot, worth keeping in the loop around what is going on. You can also visit the Action Fraud website for further information and advice.

We attended Burbage Congregational Church on Saturday for the coffee morning/crime prevention event. Despite a rainy start, it was a very good turnout where we spoke to lots of residents and supported with crime prevention items. It was a great opportunity to speak to residents and get some feedback, face to face.

We are receiving several complaints around youths on Britannia Playing fields late night/early morning, where screaming, shouting and general bad behaviour are disrupting local residents. If you are aware of who these youths are, please have a word if possible, or pop me an email where we will complete a few home visits. darren.stretton@leics.police.uk We are/will be completing patrols on the park but would prefer these issues not happen in the first place.

We have recovered a stolen motorbike from a property in Burbage this morning. It was taken from a front garden. Whilst investigations are ongoing, please do not leave bikes/motorbikes in front gardens or on show, as there appears to be a small group of criminals taking these bikes. Leaving them on show and easy to get at creates easier opportunities. If you see anyone behaving suspiciously around vehicles and believe there is a crime in progress, please call 999 immediately.

We will be holding a beat surgery at the Co-op on Boyslade Road this Thursday (12th) from around 17:00 - 18:30 if you are about.

Update received 2nd August 2024

Please see our newsletter below for a summary of July in Burbage. Also, just a quick update regarding Burbage over the last few days.

Report of a suspect checking car doors on Sapcote Road (near the Burbage Road end) at around 02:00 on the morning of the 30th of July. It is suspected multiple vehicles were checked and there has been 1 report of loose change being taken. Please remember to ensure doors are locked and no items such as loose change (even though it can be handy to have about), work laptops or bags are left in the vehicle. 24000450939 if you have any footage around this time of interest. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

We have been dealing with reports of shoplifting and general anti-social behaviour around local shops. Suspects are being identified and we are working with HBBC, alongside our crime reports, to deal with these people who are causing alarm and distress to shop workers.

Over recent days, we have been contacted regarding residents who are running businesses out of their own homes. Please be aware that permission may be needed from landlords, council, or mortgage provider. If you do run a business from your home address, please ensure you have the correct permissions.

Complaints regarding this activity can be made via this link Planning enforcement | Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council (hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk) If you do have permission, we just ask that you do what you can to limit the community impact, particularly around parking (it is often one of those subjects that causes lots of conflict and neighbour disputes).

Update received 30th July 2024

Report from Featherston drive of a break to a shed where the padlock was cut. Thankfully nothing taken. Incident occurred overnight on the 25th of July. Please consider alarmed padlocks and shed alarms. I have a catalogue where you can find these types of products (you can pop me an email if you would like any of the items or more information, Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk)

Report of an attempted residential burglary on Herald Way (near Broadsword Way junction), where a screwdriver mark had been made to the door. It does not appear entry was made but we also received a report from Beaufort Close that an unoccupied property had been burgled due to the back patio door being smashed. It is unknown if/what has been taken. It is possible these two incidents occurred on the 28th between 14:00-22:45 so if you saw anything suspicious, please pop me an email. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk 24000449293 and 24000449544

Suspect arrested and vehicle seized on the 28th of July on Brookside for supply of drugs. This followed patrols in the area by officers who noticed some suspicious activity.

Please see Leicestershire Police's "Burglary summer campaign", that aims to raise awareness and provide support/advice which will hopefully limit this type of crime, during the period where residential burglary can increase due to a range of reasons such as holidays, and leaving windows/doors open which create opportunities for opportunistic criminals. Items usually taken are cash and jewellery, so please remove/hide them as best you can if you are going away.

We have received multiple complaints of Cannabis use in residential properties, as is often the case when the weather picks up. I have provided multiple links below as there is a lot of information, but we would like to ensure residents are fully aware of all the information.

Complaints of Cannabis use can be made here https://www.leics.police.uk/ro/report/asb/asb-v3/report-antisocial-behaviour/ or https://www.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk/antisocialbehaviour

See the laws regarding Cannabis. https://www.gov.uk/penalties-drug-possession-dealing#

Please also consider the road safety aspect to using drugs such as Cannabis and the consequences of it. https://www.leics.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/rs/road-safety/alcohol-drug-driving/

Speed safety event

  • We attended Woodland Avenue due to recent resident concerns. No vehicles were caught speeding and hopefully our visibility will benefit the street going forward as the road can be used as a "cut through".
  • Hinckley Road. Out of 148 vehicles, we monitored 3 vehicles speeding. These vehicles were travelling from 36Mph to 40Mph.
  • We also visited Brodick Road in Hinckley (our volunteer is Hinckley based). Out of 97 vehicles monitored, 8 vehicles were found to be speeding. Speeds of offending vehicles mainly ranged from 37Mph to 41Mph.

Suspects were seen acting suspicious, trying a property door handle and were eventually deterred by a resident. Damage was caused to the resident's vehicle. Officers attended and completed an area search. Work is ongoing to identify a vehicle involved. 24000433324 if you have any information/CCTV of the suspects.

A Land Rover Range Rover has been reported as stolen from an address and Coventry Road (near the Robinson Way junction). The incident, which appears to be a keyless theft, is believed to have occurred at around 22:05 on the 22nd of July. We completed our beat surgery at the Three pots beat post office. We spoke to residents around a range of concerns and supported with crime prevention items, mainly around residential burglary concerns. We are also currently dealing with reports of possible drug use/dealing, and supporting residents with pro-active crime reduction items.

Scam sent in by a Burbage resident, Virgin Technical Department.

"A telephone call purporting to be from Virgin Technical Dept. and addling that they had identified a problem with my router. I am not a Virgin customer and therefore do not have a Virgin router. The call came from an 01872 number which is Cornwall. the caller hung up quickly so perhaps they had found out that I wasn't a Virgin customer!"

Emergency Pendant marketing cold calling.

"a call from 0161 545 ***. The caller was offering emergency pendants for sale and immediately tried to determine that we were over 70 years of age. We concluded that these calls are being used to target the vulnerable elderly."

It appears the call may have been from a marketing company. Please do not buy from these types of cold calling companies, they may well be scams. Always ensure you sought out reputable businesses if you wish to make purchases and NEVER give out personal details such as bank details and address over the phone.

Update received 16th July 2024

Following multiple reports of youths on a moped around the Tilton Road Park/flowers estate area, officers attended and following a foot chase, one male was stop searched and dealt with. A bike was later recovered by Police which we suspect was the one involved earlier in the day. The investigation is ongoing to identify all those involved. If you have any good CCTV which would support with identifying all those involved and the vehicle, please get in touch. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk Incident occurred between 13:15-16:00 on the 12th in areas such as Rugby Road, Azalea drive area and Tilton Road Park. 24000410790

No suspects found but if you have any information/CCTV, please get in touch. 24000418144. Properties that may look empty could attract attention so please consider actions such as lights timers and asking a neighbour to park on your drive. Please consider window alarms, PIR alarms and cactus spikes.

A ring has been found near Grove Road/Love Lane Park on the afternoon of the 12th. It has been booked into property so get in touch if you have lost one recently in the area.

One theft and several attempt thefts from vans at the Jury's Inn hotel overnight. Please park vans against walls/fences and try to prevent access to the sides. Alarms, keeping the vehicle under light and covered by CCTV is a way of deterring criminals. Ultimately, removing tools is the best option.

We have been patrolling Burbage over recent days and completed several stop checks, engaged with locals and interrupted potential crime. Patrols have been all over the village so you may have seen us about.

Information sent in by residents to raise awareness

QR scan parking scam

"Is it worth making people aware about the car park QR code scam, i.e where fake QR codes have been "posted", presumably over the genuine ones, and the link provided then takes the user to a web site where personal (bank?details are requested?"

Whilst I am not personally aware of these issues locally, it is in the news and worth considering if you are out shopping and using private car parks. Always take a minute to think who you are giving private details and banking details to. Digital scams may not be as obvious as phone calls/knocks at the door and may catch people out.

Parties and loud music

Around this time of year, more people will have gatherings, parties, and music. Due to several recent complaints, please consider the below and if you are planning any loud events, consider neighbours in the area. Noise complaints are generally dealt with by environmental health (see link below).

If you are considering having a party, these tips may help to avoid annoying your neighbours:

  • tell your neighbours in advance of your plans.
  • it is difficult to control music noise when speakers are outside in the open, so avoid speakers in the garden.
  • keep the volume of music low after 11pm and close windows and doors.
  • ask guests to leave quietly after the party, avoiding shouting, revving of car engines, or sounding of car horns.

Scam calls from the "Bank"

Scam call claiming to be from "the bank" stating Amazon have taken £1000 out of their account. Whilst this is a common scam, the number called from was a 01455 number. These numbers are often cloned but please do not let what appears to be a local number, fool you. Thankfully the resident hung up after a few seconds.

Whilst they were locked and covered, it would be advised to not leave any type of bicycles or motorbikes front gardens due to the recent thefts and opportunistic nature of the crimes. We have completed multiple home visits over the last week to youths involved in some of the recent anti-social behaviour. Spoken to parents and warning letters issued where proportionate. We also completed work with local schools to identify those involved and reduce any future issues.

We have been addressing residents' feedback/complaints regarding vehicles in the area and acted where Policing powers permit. Below vehicle recovered from Hinckley Road.

We completed our crime prevention event at the Millennium Hall on Saturday. A decent turnout and we spoke to many residents about local issues. We also sold items such as window alarms and RFID wallets which will hopefully support in protecting residents from crime. I have attached the catalogue where many of the items will deter the types of crime we are reporting. Cactus fence spikes, window alarms, shed alarms and RFID wallets all slow down or prevent criminals.

Information sent in by Residents to raise awareness.

Road Safety (Highway Code).

"Whilst walking back with shopping we were narrowly missed as we were crossing Hyacinth Way by a grey Volvo car travelling along Azalea Drive from behind us which turned into Hyacinth Way on the wrong side of the road. The driver then peeped his horn, wound down his window stopping in the road and accused us of not looking.

We did check before crossing. We approached the car and pointed out that it was their duty to wait for pedestrians already crossing the road and turn into the road on the correct side of the junction. He seemed totally unaware of this addition to the Highway Code and failed to apologise."

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/introduction#ruleh2

BT Scam.

They said it was BT regarding the replacing of our telephone lines to fibre optic. As we had an appointment with them on next week, I thought it was genuine. They said they were in Rugby Rd and "Sketchley Rd so could fit in doing ours. I was to go to Tesco and buy an Apple Card. When I said I would have to walk there as my husband wasn't in, they said they would give me time to do this and would ring me again as the work couldn't be done without it. It didn't sound right to me, so I rang EE In Hinckley and they gave me a telephone number to ring and they confirmed it was a scam. Open Reach are doing this work and they do have engineers in this area. Needless to say, they rang me again within the hour, but I ignored it."

Update received 4th July 2024

Please share the word of our Crime prevention event at the Burbage Millennium Hall on Saturday 6th July from 12:00-16:00 where we have items such as window alarms, fence spikes, padlock alarms, shed alarms and much more. We arrange these events to support with crime reduction as we approach key times of the year where historically crime can increase (holidays).

This week, we have continued to deal with youth related issues in Burbage which include an assault where 3 people have been arrested, serious Anti-social behaviour on the Britannia fields, and several other isolated incidents of rowdy behaviour, bullying and general concerning behaviour.

We have completed home visits and an assembly at Hastings to challenge this behaviour. Due to the numbers of youths involved, we would ask parents to ensure they are aware of what their children are up to, where they are, who they are with. The age group involved in most of the recent issues ranges from 12-15 years old.

We hope some of the recent work (arrests, visits, school visits and communication to parents) will stop this type of behaviour before the holidays. Most of those involved are "hangers on" but this this type of work is extremely resource intensive. As the school holidays approach, we believe a lot of parents will not want their children getting caught up in this type of behaviour or associating with the few who appear to be driving most of the recent issues, so we encourage parents and children to take our advice on board to avoid any knocks on the door or phone calls from us.

We have been patrolling the area and as a result, one vehicle seized due to no licence and insurance, another vehicle seized where the driver was arrested. These were due to patrols around the Brookside and Sapcote Road area.

Report of several suspects trying to break into garages on Bridge Road (off Brookside) at around 02:35 on the morning of the 30th June. A car window was also smashed in the area. Officers attended but the suspects had left the scene. If you have any CCTV in the area, please get in touch 24000384945

I have spoken to a resident who raised concerns regarding malicious spam emails. Whilst the resident did not fall for it, these types of messages can cause a lot of worry and anxiety. They may make accusations or make you feel frightened. Please do not respond to them, report as necessary and just remember these types of messages are sent to lots of people in the hope of getting a response by using intimidation as a way to make you respond.

Update received 28th June 2024

Following the initial reports of criminal activity over the 23rd and 24th which we reported on the last message, several other reports have come in from the Cardinal Drive and Indigo Drive area. These incidents relate to theft from vehicles.

On the night of the 26th of June, it appears multiple suspects in a vehicle have been in the area of Burbage and Hinckley. We have received the below reports.

  • Sketchley Road. Suspects seen acting suspicious around vehicles in the area of Pyeharps Road/Sketchley Road around 23:35, damage also caused to the side of a van.
  • Saint James's Close. Side of a van cut at around 23:35. Nothing taken.
  • Frezenberg Close. Garage door lock forced and a report of a theft from a van. Unsure of times but likely around 23:00-00:30 on the night of the 26th.

Over the last week, it appears several different groups have targeted high performance vehicles, motorbikes, and theft from vehicles (anything they can get from tools to laptops).

We have been completing late night patrols in the area and area searches following reports of these incidents. Work has/is also being completed regarding CCTV to identify those involved.

During patrols, we have seized a vehicle cloned registration plates, stop searches where drugs were recovered, stop checks where the driver did not have a driving licence andresponding to reports of suspicious vehicles/persons.

Late night stop check near the M69 roundabout when we spotted so odd driving.

Vehicle recovered from Hereford Way. Spotted whilst patrolling the area (wrong number plates).

We have spent lots of time over recent days/nights, driving around all areas of Burbage, speaking to residents, checking areas of concern, and supporting residents with crime prevention items that could help in preventing crime.

We obviously hope the recent week of incidents will stop and we are doing what we can regarding patrols, evidence gathering and dealing with those involved. We would ask that residents please ensure the following points.

  • Do not leave personal items in vehicles such as laptops, bags, bank cards, tools (where possible remove)
  • Ensure you use a steering lock/disc and RFID car key wallets if your vehicle is keyless.
  • Consider getting window alarms, anti-snap locks and padlocks/alarms for sheds/garages.
  • Do not leave motorbikes on show or easy to take. Invest in a good quality chain which is fixed to the floor.

Youths and Lakes DANGER

During the hot weather, it may be tempting for youths to find local lakes. We have been addressing concerns raised this week relating to youths visiting a local lake. Issues include trespass, criminal damage, use of alcohol and welfare issues. We have identified some of those involved and completed door knocks to speak with youths and parents.

We hope for understanding and support from parents in trying to prevent any serious incidents, when we complete door knocks to youths who have been identified as involved (we don't always get that). The advise we give, and time and effort we put into this, is with the best interests of the safety of local children and we hope it is taken on board and enforced by parents.

From some of the discussions I have had, and some of the information I have heard, PLEASE DO NOT let children attend these locations. There are very serious consequences when young children are left unoccupied in these "out of the way areas", getting up to things you are not aware of. We are working with the school and parents to ensure this does not continue. Aside from the criminal damage and trespass, I have very real concerns as I am sure you do, around the safety of those attending. We are patrolling several locations identified and will continue to deal with anyone involved in this behaviour.

Don't forget to visit us at Burbage Millennium hall on Saturday 6th July from 12:00-16:00 where we have items such as window alarms £3, fence spikes, padlock alarms, shed alarms, RFID wallets £2 and much more (sold at cost, cash only).

Update received 24th June 2024

LEP-240624-0098 if you saw anything suspicious in the area or have any CCTV, pop me an email. It is also believed that the suspect may have been trying car doors in the area. Please ensure any crime is reported, this can be done via the Police website.

Officers have completed stop searches on Sapcote road around midnight, seizing a small amount of drugs, recovered a stolen bike and are working to identify evidence relating to the recent vehicle thefts.

We attended Burbage Carnival and spoke to many residents and supported with crime reduction items. We also visited Hastings High school today to speak to year 9 pupils around subjects such as Anti-social behaviour in preparation for the summer holidays, year 10 will be completed over the coming weeks. We have also visited Burbage Juniors and completed some year 5 class talks around internet safety.

Please really consider home security such as window alarms, fence spikes, RFID car wallets and steering locks to deter criminals. Do NOT leave valuables on show, in vehicles, and ensure items such as cash and jewellery are hidden/removed if you are going away.

Update received 20th June 2024

A couple of reports over recent days to raise awareness of. A motorbike was stolen from the front of a property on Duport Road (near Far Lash) between 22:00 on the 18th and 08:00 on the 19th. From investigations so far, it is likely the bike was taken between 01:30-02:30 due to other suspicious activity in the area. The motorbike was found damaged not far from the victim location. If you have any CCTV in the area or information on those involved, please take a look and pop an email to Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk 24000360154

Report of 3 suspects in the area of Sketchley Lane (on driveways) at 21:10 on the 18th of June. It is not clear what their motives were, but worth considering vehicle crime. Nothing appears to have been taken but, any CCTV of the suspects or vehicle they came in would help us investigate what they were up to. Officers attended but the suspects had left.

We have been completing work with Hinckley and Bosworth Council to complete a closure order on a property in Burbage following complaints which have impacted on local residents, due to the activity at the address. Hopefully, this work will help residents feel safer in the area they live. If you have concerns or see suspicious activity from locations in Burbage, feel free to get in touch.

We have had a very busy few days completing some community engagements in Burbage. It has been great to speak to residents of all ages around a range of issues.

  • Burbage Infants. Full school assembly before the main school holidays. We spoke about water safety, road safety and stranger danger. As always, the children were fantastic to speak to and always a pleasure to visit. We hope they all have a happy and safe holiday.
  • Hanover Court. Visit completed where we spoke to residents around local issues such as scams, Anti-social Behaviour, and general crime prevention. It was a worthwhile visit which gave us the opportunity to reach residents that may not use social media.
  • SPAR beat surgery. We spoke to residents and supported with crime prevention items such as window alarms and car key wallets. Really worthwhile event for an hour to speak to locals and catch up with the staff.

Hopefully the sun will show its face this Sunday (23rd June) for the Burbage Carnival. Pop along for a chat. We should be on the main field from around 12:00-16:00 with the usual crime prevention items (sold at cost). The procession of floats travelling around the streets which will include road closures will be between around 12:00-13:30 (closures may slightly differ) with the events such as stalls, funfair, and dancing displays on the Millennium fields until around 19:00.

Please just be mindful of the road closures during the morning/early afternoon times. The affected roads include the areas such as Windsor Street/Coventry Road/Sketchley Road/Boyslade Road/Hinckley Road and Church Street areas.

If you are attending by vehicle, PLEASE park sensibly, not blocking drives, footpaths, or parking on junctions. These events are usually well attended and a good community event for residents.

We continue to regularly get mobile phones and keys handed in. Please consider writing an alternative phone number on the back of your phone and key fob. Most people who find these items will make efforts to reunite them with the keeper, so it may save you a lot of stress if you do drop/misplace keys or your phone as it will be easy for the finder to contact you.

Thank you and take care.

Darren and Josh.

Update received 14th June 2024

Report of 3 suspect males entering some stables on Lychgate Lane at around 03:45 on the morning of Tuesday 11th of June. They have taken a security camera and its solar power panel. They spent time checking the area out. Please be mindful if you have stables in the area. Whilst it can be very difficult to secure items, please lock away valuable items and consider increased lighting and CCTV. 24000343613

Report of a residential burglary on Sketchley Lane sometime between the 3rd and 10th of June. Entry was gained via the back of the property, items such as costume jewellery and ornaments taken.

Due to the time frame, it is often very difficult to find investigation opportunities, please ensure sentimental and high value items are removed or well hidden before going on holiday. House alarms, window alarms, light timers and neighbours/family checking on the property are all beneficial to reduce the chances of you becoming a victim of this type of crime. Please review home security, before you go away and get in touch if you would like a copy of the crime reduction items catalogue. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk 24000347095

They said that I was not getting the best speed out of my broadband, and they were going to advise me how to do this. The call appeared to come from a mobile number (07*** 3***26). I am not a Virgin customer hence the call was terminated."

Please continue to be mindful of scams and support neighbours/friends where possible.

Update received 7th June 2024

Over recent days, we have been spending time dealing with youth related issues and shoplifting. It appears some of the recent behaviour involving youths may have been increased due to the use of alcohol. We are identifying those involved, and have planned in several pieces of work before the main school holidays to try and reduce a repeat of last weeks activity.

Other Police activity over recent days include the seizing of vehicles, arrest, and stop checks.

Over the last month, we have received a couple of calls regarding the concern of the removal of birds nests from under solar panels. It may not be known to most people, but please consider the below law if you have solar panels or are considering having them installed, and are looking to have them cleaned or protected from birds nesting under them. There is potential that you or someone attending your property could be committing a crime under the Wildlife and countryside Act 1981. To prevent birds nesting under your solar panels, ideally have them fitted with guards/deterrents as soon as the panels are fitted.

"Subject to the provisions of this Part, if any person intentionally

(a)kills, injures or takes any wild bird; takes, damages or destroys the nest of a wild bird included in Schedule ZA1;

(b)takes, damages, or destroys the nest of any wild bird while that nest is in use or being built; or

(c)takes or destroys an egg of any wild bird,

he shall be guilty of an offence."

We attended the nationwide commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings during the Second World War, at the Far Lash community space where the Burbage beacon was lit.

There was a very good turn out and it was great to speak to some familiar faces. Burbage Parish Council did a great job organising the event.

Don't forget the Burbage Carnival on Sunday the 23rd of June. There will be a few rolling road closures followed by the fair and stalls on the Britannia playing fields from around 12:00-16:00. We should be having our crime prevention stall as usual, hopefully the weather is good.

Update received 1st June 2024

Please see the Burbage Police newsletter which contains a summary of goings on in Burbage for May.

This week, we have continued to investigate reports of Anti-social behaviour at locations such as Love Lane and Lychgate Lane. We are continuing to collect CCTV and completing targeted patrols. We will hopefully make progress on this next week when the schools return.

We visited locations such as pictured. Tilton Road, Bullfurlong Lane, Workhouse Lane and Church Street. Other locations such as Hinckley Road park, Britannia park Fields and Brookside areas.

Patrols are being completed in the evenings and late night. We have engaged with multiple groups of youths and are in the process of identifying anyone involved in recent complaints. The majority of youths we have spoken to have been polite and have taken on board any advice given. Friday night was very busy regarding groups around the area and thankfully no new reports overnight. Some of the anti-social behaviour over the last week from youths, appears to be alcohol related. We would ask that parents ensure if they have teenage children, to be mindful of where they are and what they are doing when out and about in Burbage.

Report received from Duport Road that sometime on the night of the 30th into the 31st, a vehicle window was smashed. It appears the suspect has jumped on the front of the vehicle. If you have any CCTV, 24000319953 (location of incident is near the Far Lash junction).

Report from Coventry road, around 21:15 on the 31st, a white van was in the area and a male knocking doors asking for scrap. We have received several of these reports of recent weeks, generally due to the time this is happening. We have identified the registration of this vehicle and work is ongoing to identify the keeper/driver. No reports of crime received since this incident. Please be mindful around what items you are leaving in your garden such as bicycles, large ornaments etc.

Update received 28th May 2024

Here is an update for crime in Burbage and some of what we have been up to over the last 10 days.

Please be aware that the messages we send out are based on the information we have at the time of writing. These messages are sent out to local residents to raise awareness and identify any possible information that would overwise be missed. We are also not always aware of the full details as investigations are generally ongoing/early stages. Information within these messages reflect recorded crime reports (where appropriate to publicise), concerns that local officers are aware of, and general issues that we feel have a community impact.

Report from a resident who has found their car window smashed on Sunnyhill South (near Balliol Road). Appears this happened on the night of Tuesday 21st of May. We do not have any decent time frame but pop me an email if you manage to find anything.

There have been several reports of damage and attempt theft to allotment sites such as Blackways Meadows (off Brookside) and Workhouse Lane over the last week or two. It has mainly been damage caused to locks and polytunnels. If you have witnessed any suspicious behaviour around these sites, please get in touch. We will be increasing patrols in these areas but please be reminded not to leave any valuable items about in sheds/allotment areas. There was also a report of a theft of machinery from a van on Twycross Road on the night of the 24th, the tool is around 3ft long and used for bending metal if you see anything dumped around. 24000306836

A resident has had several items thrown into their garden by two males. The suspects then kicked their door and damaged the vehicle on the drive. The items are very heavy so I suspect they will be local to Twycross Road. Items are a Church Wardens Staff (so I am told) and parts of a "Stuart Turner 1906" model steam engine. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk 24000282933

Report of a theft of a motor home "auto sleeper" in brown from Beechwood Avenue between 22:00 on the 22nd and 08:50 on the 23rd. The vehicle was taken from the driveway towards Wolvey Road. If you have any CCTV and have not spoken to officers, please get in touch. 24000301926 darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

We visited Sketchley Primary school last week as part of their "walk to school" campaign. We completed 2 assemblies where we spoke about all aspects of road safety. It was a pleasure to see so many faces of all age groups, where relevant information was given. Hopefully some of the advice will feed back to the minority of parents causing hazards outside the school. We also completed a beat surgery outside the Co-op on Boyslade road. Concerns discussed include rogue traders, keyless car crime and residential burglary.

We have had several direct reports of youths engaging in anti-social behaviour during last week at locations such as Britannia Road, Windsor Street and Freemans Lane. It appears to be a group of youths (boys and girls) who are being rude to residents and causing small amounts of criminal damage around evening times. We are in the process of identifying them. Obviously, any further information/support would be welcomed.

Update received 18th May 2024

We hope you are well. Overall, a good week in Burbage regarding low levels of crime. It has been over a month since we received any reports of theft of vehicles or residential burglary. We did receive one report of a theft of vehicle but turned out the driver had forgot where they parked it. Hopefully I haven't jinxed it. Please continue to be mindful around home security such as closing windows when you are not about, lock back doors if you are not home and continue with the use of RFID wallets/steering locks for vehicles.

Report of an assault on Church Street at around 23:30 on the night of Friday 17th May. Officers attended but if you have any information and have not spoken to officers, pop me an email. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

The Burbage common open day planned for 19/05/2024 has been postponed due to the recent rain, hopefully it will be rearranged for some time in September.

We are visiting Sketchley Primary this week for their "walk to school" campaign. We will be out at local schools completing assemblies and monitoring/challenging parking.

Twice a year Leicestershire Police take part in a national programme to target knife related crime. We do this under the banner of OPERATION SCEPTRE!

Hinckley and Blaby NPA have started with their week of enforcement and will keep you posted with all the things we get up to. This could include:

Additional Patrols in Hotspot areas
The use of Knife arches and Knife wands
Visits to schools
Sweeps of open spaces for any concealed weapons
Arresting and disrupting those people that intelligence suggests carries knifes
Using our social media channels to raise awareness to the risks

Local officers have been checking out some open spaces to ensure no knives have been hidden. Checks completed and nothing of concern found so far.

If you have concerns about someone carrying a knife, need advice or want further information about knife crime initiatives you can visit: https://orlo.uk/619gT or https://orlo.uk/4ZdDJ

Update received 14th May 2024

We received a report where an elderly resident was targeted via their home phone line by scammers. Scammers claimed to be from the "fraud squad" and following multiple calls, the resident withdrew a large amount of money from their bank. Thankfully, before they posted it to an address given to them by the scammers, a neighbour realised what was going on and managed to intervene, stopping the money from being posted. This was as close as it gets without losing money to scams, and if not through the vigilant neighbour, the money would be gone. A massive well done and thank you to him. A great example of a resident looking out for their neighbour.

Obviously, this incident had a big impact emotionally on the elderly resident and work has been done to prevent this from happening again. We are sharing this information to hopefully raise awareness and just make every think twice as there are many scams out there, some obvious, some not so obvious. It is also worth remembering that some elderly people have not grown up in a world of internet/Tech/digital scams and may have vulnerabilities that make them more susceptible to these scams. Actions such as "flags" on bank accounts and phone blockers/filters can reduce the chances of loved ones becoming victims to these scams. You can speak to your bank and phone line provider for more information as to how you can protect yourself or elderly family members.

We have been completing patrols around Burbage which resulted in some good crime prevention results. We also met lots of residents and some lovely people. During patrols, a stop search was completed around the East Close area where a small quantity of Cannabis was seized. Outcomes of this type of offence can vary dependant on age, past offences, and quantity of drugs. Typically, anyone under the age of 18 will be dealt with by the youth offending service and additional safeguarding work will be completed by the attending officers.

Our patrols were targeted based on resident feedback and local crime trends. Areas included the allotments off Brookside, Brookside/East Close area, Colts Close/Three pots area, All parks, Hotels such as the Jury's Inn and Sketchley Grange and a trip down Lychgate Lane towards the motorway/wooded area.

We visited the Girls Brigade in Hinckley to speak to the children around issues such as stranger danger, internet safety and personal safety. It was a pleasure to visit, discussing the pitfalls of social media, friendship groups and other subjects that affect teenagers locally. Hopefully they enjoyed our chat and remember the advice as they get older.

If you are about on Sunday 19th May, pop along to the annual Burbage common open day. We plan on being at the location with our neighbourhood watch organiser and the usual crime prevention items. Hopefully the weather is good. You can find out more via this link to the Hinckley and Bosworth council website.

If you have any information, pop me an email darren.stretton@leics.police.uk 24000271480

There was also a similar report from a property near Smithy Lane on the 4th into the 5th where a golf buggy was stolen from a barn/shed and then dumped in a nearby lake. Again, please be mindful of items left lying about in gardens such as bicycles, tools, and high value garden furniture.

We have been notified of an incident where a driver has been approached by 2 males on Lychgate Lane at 00:25 on the morning of Saturday 4th May. The males tried to open the door of the vehicle, but the driver drove off. It is unclear what the intentions were (drunk or attempting to take the vehicle). If you have any CCTV of the above time/date on Lychgate Lane that shows any suspicious behaviour, please get in touch.

We are currently completing some targeted patrols due to concerns of Anti-social Behaviour and drug use. Areas include Colts Close area, Sapcote Road and Brookside. Other ongoing work includes dealing with youth related Anti-social behaviour affecting local residents (criminal damage/knock and run/trespass).

Update received 30th April 2024

It has been a busy week in Burbage this week. We would really appreciate any support that you can give regarding CCTV for the below. We appear to have several people in the village causing criminal damage to vehicles and anti-social behaviour which is impacting on residents.

This mindless, disgusting behaviour is causing financial hardship and, an emotional impact, particularly on elderly residents. It appears those involved were walking around the village so please take a look at any CCTV you may have and that you feel may be of evidential value. Please forward it on to me. darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Update received 25th April 2024

Report of damage to a vehicle window on Coventry Road (near Paddock Lane) where the window was smashed. It appears this was an act of vandalism sometime between 02:00-08:00 on the morning of the 21st of April. Please get in touch if you have any CCTV around this area showing any suspects.

We are identifying multiple youths which may be linked to some of the recent issues such as fence damage, vehicle damage and drunken behaviour in the village. Work is ongoing with schools and partner agencies. We have had some helpful CCTV provided to us regarding these incidents which really help in regard to identifying those involved and times of incidents so thank you for any information you have been able to provide. We are completing targeted patrols, home visits and piecing together recent activity which will hopefully get some results and prevent further issues.

Vehicle seized from Brookside this week for multiple reasons. There has been a recent increase in vehicles that appear to be "dumped" around the village, often with no tax. If a vehicle has no tax and is parked on a public road, we have the powers to remove it. The vehicle needs to be caught being driven in regard to no insurance or MOT. We will obviously try to deal with any information we get as soon as possible as some vehicles where the documents are not in order, can be linked to crime. Update received 21st April 2024

There have been several reports of youths in Burbage over recent weeks engaging in Anti-social behaviour and criminal damage. Incidents include drunken behaviour, damage to fence panels, kicking doors and smashing glass bottles on fields (Field behind St Catherine's close/Higham Way at around 20:00 on the 20th). We received a report of damage to a vehicle on Greenmoor road at around 00:30 on the morning of the 19th of April, where a piece of rockery was thrown at the vehicle. Other reports came from Belfry Close and Higham Way.

We are working with the school to identify those involved. We are also speaking to local children and parents to identify who is responsible for the damage caused. This type of behaviour causes a lot of upset and distress, especially when repeatedly targeted, if you have any information or CCTV that we would be able to identify those involved, please get in touch. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Much of this damage is being caused later in the evenings to the early hours of the morning. We are completing targeted patrols but these incidents are very sporadic so any information would really support us and the victims.

Stop searches/vehicle searches completed in Burbage this week including locations such as the Allotment area off Brookside.

Report of 2 males checking a car door on Kensington Avenue at around 00:20 on the morning of the 18th. Please let this be a reminder to ensure you do not leave anything in your vehicle and it is locked.

Just to raise awareness, multiple motorbikes were stolen from locations in Hinckley over the last week. If you have a motorbike, please keep it out of sight, if you are leaving it away from home, ensure it is locked up and ideally covered by CCTV.

Following a report of burglaries to unoccupied properties on Brookfield Road (new builds) at around 02:15 on the morning of the 16th, Police attended immediately with dogs and as a result, 2 suspects were arrested at the scene.

Whilst officers were out around Burbage, a stop check was completed on a vehicle at around 03:30 on Watling Street. The vehicle was seized due to the driver not having a licence. Stop searches also completed in areas such as Brookside.

We have been completing patrols around all parks in Burbage including Tilton Road, Colt Close and Hinckley Road park. Other patrols include Hastings High area, Brookside, Three Pots and the Hansom Cab area. Vehicle checks completed and we spoke to several youths. Probably best not to run off if you see us, ultimately, we are completing these patrols to identify crime and keep people safe. Following a discussion with several youths, hopefully that message was understood. If you are not up to no good, we are here to help.

We completed a beat surgery at the three pots post office. Even though it was cut short due to commitments, we spoke to lots of residents, supported with crime prevention such as car key wallets and handed out bicycle lights to several children who were extremely polite.

Update received 16th April 2024

Following reports of suspicious activity around the Rainbow Way and Brookside area at 20:45 on the 12th of April, officers attended and located two males. Stop checks were completed and investigations are ongoing. No reports of crime committed. Thanks to the member of public calling us as this may have prevented a crime.

Vehicle seized following a stop check around the Sapcote road area using section 165 powers. It's worthwhile taking a minute to check your vehicle is up to date with MOT and insurance as it can cost several hundred pounds to get the vehicle back if seized (plus other costs).

We have been completing patrols and work around previous crime in the area including tasks such as safeguarding work, victim support, statements, CCTV trawls, building local intelligence around local concerns and home visits.

We have visited Sketchley Primary school following complaints around vehicle related issues. I would just like to pass on a few observations as we are working with the school to try and implement some permanent solutions, ultimately to keep everyone safe and reduce the chances of there being an incident.

  • If you are a parent walking your child around the school, please stay alert, keep the child near you. We witnessed many children away from parental control and near roads.
  • If you are a motorist or cyclist, please drive/ride in a manner that is acceptable for a school area. Lack of concentration or simply not paying attention can have horrendous consequences.
  • DO NOT park on footpaths or opposite junctions or block residents driveways. We spoke to several motorists about this. It should not need us to tell people it is dangerous and causes other road safety issues.
  • Please ensure you utilise the school crossing patrol (Keith). We witnessed many parents and children crossing the road further down. When crossing, please wait on Keith to wave you across and all vehicles are stationary before crossing.

In summary, the area is obviously very busy around school times, and we ask everyone just refreshes themselves on road safety. We are exploring ways to reduce traffic in the area and find alternative solutions, but this is not an easy solution and often, these solutions are within partner agencies jurisdictions.

It would be appreciated if you are able to encourage other Burbage residents to sign up and become a member of Neighbourhood Link. This will help get our messages out and raise crime awareness. Please share on social media or local groups. https://www.neighbourhoodlink.co.uk/#SignUp
