A new name on Burbage War Memorial was officially unveiled at this year's Remembrance service on Sunday November 10.

Sergeant George Henry Smith, of Flamville Road, who served with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Berkshire Regiment in Burma (now Myanmar), was reported presumed dead in March 1945, aged 36.

Although listed on a memorial in Rangoon, he had not been commemorated in the UK until the Parish Council paid for his name to be added to the Church Street cenotaph earlier this year.

His daughter, Burbage resident Ann Smith, performed the unveiling as part of this year's commemorations, to be led by the Revd Andrew Hall of St Catherine's Church, following a traditional parade from Grove Road.
