Local History
Burbage Heritage Group
Burbage Heritage Group was formed in December 2000 to promote an appreciation of the history, architecture, landscape and wildlife in Burbage village and parish. It aims to encourage interest in the heritage of the community through a regular programme of meetings and parish walks.
The group is part of the Heritage Watch Community Project from Leicestershire Museums, Arts and Records Service, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
It meets on the first Thursday of each month at the Congregational Church, Church Street, Burbage, where members discuss projects and host guest speakers. The group mounts an annual exhibition containing displays from recent projects as well as exhibits created by other local groups.
The group believes that the local heritage of a parish is what makes it special and sets it apart from other areas. Public involvement provides a vital contribution in the recording, protection and preservation of sites of local importance.
